Oil usage

Mine burnt cases...I figured it out a few times, 20-1 and my 800s were 28-1

oh and it was going thru a huge pile just before I lost the engine at 1800 kms

Yikes!!! I am right at the 1800 KM mark so I guess I better have Blackcomb Helicopter's phone number on speed dial! I would get at least 2-3 rides out of a tank of oil last year and now it's chugging it! I only put 48 km on my sled on Monday and a full tank of oil.

I wonder if the direct oiling with the 850 vs the isoflex in the 800 is responsible for the increased oil usage.

I went though over 25gal of oil last year before windowing the block at 2000mi. This year I bought 35gal of bulk oil in 5gal jugs. Better have a good back up sled and ton of oil to make it through a season on the 850s

Calculating ROUGH NUMBERS...you were about 16/1...yikes!

That sounds about right. I went through 9-12 gallons in 1100 miles on 2 sleds... I have so many cases of oil strung out between my Truck, enclosed, and shop but I definitely burned 3 cases last winter. I think they burn 25% more than the 800 Etec

Totally agree with Chadly, we went through a lot of oil last year for the 850 while the 800 etec used much less. Not complaining, love the 850 engine and it's a small price to pay to keep the 850 running well.

Topped off another buddies sled a few times here and there but that 25 gal was essentially just for one 850. After it blew up and I was back on the xm for the second half of the season all of a sudden the fear of always running out of the red sauce went away.
