Oil consumtion question

So recently I had my 04 800 ported and polished.Which kicks some serious A$$. But I am going through alot of oil.Around a gallon every ride.I ride in the mountains climbing and stuff like that so i do not check mileage.however we usally ride for a good 8 hrs.Is there any way to adjust the oiler or should i just go to pre mix????????????????

There is a way to adjust the oil pump. The repair manual has the instructions and the 2004 repairanual can Be viewed for free online at a website that I don't have. I think there is a thread with the web URL over on d o o t a l k . c o m.
Keep in mind that you are probably using more fuel now too. After I did my cylinders I use more fuel and thus more oil.

Yes there is a way to adjust the oiler. But you need to make sure that it is returning to the closed position off the throttle. They have been noted not to completely return to the closed position. There is a fix for that by puttin a spring on the oiler lever to make it return at all times. Plus you maay have it out of adjustment too. I've had ported, and ridin with Big Bore Revs they don't seem to use a hole lot more oil than normal. So there is a problem there. I am actually surprised you aren't fouling plugs with that much useage.

Not fouling plugs and it is running great.Looked over the oil tank to make sure it was not cracked anywere and it is not.I will try the spring idea i hope this will fix it because I run KLOTZ oil and it is 45.99 a gallon. Thanks for the advice

The spring added to help return the oil pump to lower flows at lower throttle positions may help but you should definitely start by checking to be sure that your oil pump settings are correct from the start before adding a band aid fix like a return spring add on. Setting the oil pump at the correct point is fairly easy on the REV's and is almost certainly easier than adding the return spring. All you need is a small inspection mirror and some small(ish) box end wrenches for the barrel adjuster, 15 min and yer done!

Get yourself a manual, it will pay for itself with one ride judging by the way your are saying your sled is burning through oil! A gallon in 8 hours of riding :face-icon-small-sho ??? waayyy to more than that sled should be burnin :tsk::tsk::tsk:.

the spring on the oil pump is weak and a known problem. it may or may not hang up when it is in the shop but will on the trail when cold. I added a small spring to mine but I still had to adjust the the cable to reduce consumption.
