Officers maced while trying to catch pit bulls. But wait, there's more!

I guess I wonder what is the point of owning a dog that "has a reputation" how did the breed get the reputation? most likely its deserved

what I mean is - if you go by looks a doberman is one of the scariest looking to me, hell they look straight from the devil, but when was the last doberman attack you read about. So based on looks they should have this terrible reputation. So I think the pit bulls is based on reality, WITH A BUNCH OF MEDIA HYPE as with everything.

Here's a test, a general type question.

your walking down a deserted street with your little 4 year old girl walking beside you, and you see two labs 100 feet away trotting towards and looking at you. How do you feel?

same question again

your walking down a deserted street and you see two Pitbull/"strong breed" type dogs 100 feet away trotting towards and looking at you. How do you feel.

I'm betting in real life your alot less nervous with the labs....why their earned reputation????

One of the worst dogs to own is a damn Chow, I personally know of 6 that have either attacked other people or their owners. If you own one, you asking for trouble, period.

one stupid neighbor of mine had to put down three for biting, no he wasnt abusive, IMHO they are just bad dogs. yes bad dogs.

any individual dog in a breed of dogs can just be aggressive, but when you get a physically strong, large dog that has aggressive insticts.....what is the point??? protection? Bull$hyit, a pump shot gun, scariest sound in the world to an intruder.

a warning system/deterrent. Bull$hyite again any alert dog would do the same.

someone comes to rob you while your away get an alarm system and who gives a crap, call the insurance company.

so the way I see it is it is a machizmo type of thing, look at me and my tough dog.

if it is not that then why dont the police use them as attack trained dogs? I'm thinking a pit is stronger than a shepard.

hell get a Lab, family friendly, smart, trainable, lovable and still protective.

myself I own beagles, I like inside and outside dogs that bark and don't Yipe strong enough to roughhouse and just goof off with alot of characteristics like labs.

so back to origional story,
dog attacks human - dog dies

If this is true, why do they make bear pepper spray? Isn't it basically the same thing?

i think there is probably enough of a story to justify "should have shot them"

1) the dogs bit two kids
2) cops were called
3) the dogs obviously did not submit to being sent to the kennel.

for 90% of the world, pitbulls are dangerous animals and are owed zero tolerance. You put everyone at risk by having those animals so the owner must accept when their little darlings get put down by the police after biting two kids.

X2 I'm a dog lover but I can't stand these un trusting aggressive beasts, ans yes I've had some bad experiences with pit bulls and even a boxer that my neighbor has that has killed more than its share of other animals. But its friendly as can be to most humans.

How could anyone shoot these?? (Both Pit mixes)

This reminds me of how a pit bull was acting right before it tried to take my face off. My wifes cousins had two pits and they woud smoother me evrytine I was around them and I thought wow how did they get such a bad rep, then one day after I ad been there for a couple hours I made eye contact with one of them and he took it as a threat and lunged for my face. He was up on the porch and I was on thw lawn, he missed, good for both of us. But after that I had had no use at all for that breed. no matter how they are raised. These pits were spoiled and were treated like they were children. My new opinion of pits is shoot first ask questions later, esecially now that I have two little boys that think all dogs are just friendly cuddlers.

Don't knock'em till you own one. I'v had many many complements on mine. I trust her with all the kids and dogs in the neighborhood. I'm sold on them, pits only for me. Sorry I don't know how to upload large photos, but you can click on them to make them bigger.

Each situation is different. I am not going to Monday night quarterback these officers. I get irritated when it happens to me...."why didn't ya wait for other officers....why did you feel you had to make te arrest right then" ...bla bla... They probably did the best they could at the time.

I have sprayed dogs and I have killed them also. If those pits tore up a child....then I'm gonna destroy that animal....no ands, ifs, or buts. I don't care what kind of dog it is. If it was a small bite or small puncture...no I won't destroy the animal, but I am gonna be up in the owner's **** and he will damn sure know what is gonna happen the next time I come around....even though I haven't worked patrol in almost a decade.

I don't have a problem with breeds...my brother has a pit...that dog is as gentle/timid as any dog I have seen. I have a buddy with an English Bulldog...120lb dog...gentle and timid. However, if you play with him and he gets going he will knock ya on your a$$ and he latched onto my arm a little (playing with me) and left a giant bruise...but it was my fault...I picked him up and chucked him....he came back playing real rough. haha

I own a dobe which in the 80's was the killer dog.I was at the vets office and a 2 year old girl was beside my dog petting him. She told me she was afraid of big dogs.My dog licked her and she said he kissed me?I said that's right he's a friendly dog.
I hate it when people judge dogs by their breed!Dogs are a product of their owners. There is no such thing as a bad dog only bad owners.
That's why I get so PO'd when people spout off rediculous statistics about dogs.
My buddy has a pitty that may lick you to death but that's it.
Anyone who knows anything about dogs know the statistics of dog problems goes with the popularity of the breeds.Granted when a big dog attacks the severity will be worse but that doesn't take into account all the factors involved.

^^^^^^Agreed, the most dangerous thing on my pit is her tail.

Hit that on the head, big time.

I help teach a course once in a while on holistic animal care, and choosing the right breed of dog for your personality. There are actually a bunch of quizzes you can take that will pin point the breed of dog most suited for your personality. People fall in love with the "idea" of a breed sometimes which is the begining of troubles for the dog. Some people are too low of energy, or not assertive enough, which can be a catalyst to poor behavior as the dog has pent up frustrations they need to release.
A book with this information is called
"What Breed of dog is Best for You" I can't remember the name of the author.

Some facts…..

Pit Bulls are a breed that is very productive at killing, any dog breed can and will kill….Pit bulls are used in dog fights and trained to jack people up simply because this breed is more productive at it….and yes, fighting is in the blood line

I’m a pitbull owner, never ever taught him how to fight…. he will try and take down the any dog at the dog park when provoked, he does not start fights…but he will do as his breed does and scare the piss out of others and there dogs….im ok with that

Now lets agree that most “bad” pitbulls are raised bad by ill-responsible dog owners….yet we and the media still blame the pitbull…is it the kids fault for throwing a fit in the grocery store?….hell no, it’s the parents fault for allowing that little chit to behave in such a manner

A pitbull is just like a gun, both don’t kill in a static state…..but in the wrong hands, they are deadly

The article stated "Community Service Officers" I doubt they were sworn officers, I'll bet they just enforce local ordinance compliance issues. If it was truly "mace" then it was not going to be very effictive on dogs, pepper spray works much better. We all can learn from their wind direction blunder, most people don't think twice about it, stream, foam, or spray can all be effected by wind.
