What to expect??? Friendly folks happy to see us or pissed off locals thinking we are stealing there work ? We are dooing road construction... we are out of work in MT. We are employing about 50 % Canada locals and as we get going we will ship some of our disgruntled employees back to the states and hire more Canadians ... I just dont know what to expect, any thoughts from the folks up north , good or bad will be appreciated...thanks Dino

happy to have ya all, our constuction season is so short that we need all the help we can get. If your in the Edmonton Area I will be happy to buy you a beer.:beer;

Fort Mc Cloud then Calgary yeah we have 208,000 tons of paving to get done this season, another 30,000 tons would finish our season out very well. And I would be the one buying the :beer; Thanks Dino

come on up ....have a look around ....like Pit Crew said ...the Frogs are a different story ...

If your a humble, hard working, respectful person, you'll fit right in. Bring your drinking hat. lol Welcome to Canada !! Be sure to stop in at the Maid :p

I'll take anything I can get! My dad'd drug me through so many different types of construction in my life I'm sure there ain't much we can't handle.. Ran a few rollers in my day too:D Thats the first machine i broke out on when I got into the heavy equipment industry. Sheeps foot, smooth drum, you name it, i've rolled it:cool::beer;:beer; would like to see canada a few more times in my life as well, pretty nice country up there.. thats what I love about equipment operatin, usually in some of the most desolate places on earth, like the side of a cliff in a trackhoe teathersd to a D11, fun stuff. I love steep slopes, hence my love for hillclimbing:D:D

Being from Montana, I'm sure you'll fit right in with us Canucks in the west. And I know this is a long shot but if your company needs heavy equipment lemme know. The company I'm working for is hurting right now. Little to no rentals going out lately:(.

you won't have to be tetherd to anything working in alberta , she's pretty flat over there between the fort and calgary .

you american's be careful if your gona tackle our canadian beer ,

Paving rolling is much different than dirt rolling. You Dont get a second chance to make it right. A roller can make or break an outfit. Roll it wrong, and it could mean grind and REPAVE the whole section.

On the other hand, If there are any EXPERIENCED pavers looking to work in Alaska, there is a good possiblity of a job. 302 operators or union laborers with decent pay. Not 200,000 tons worth, but enough to keep a guy busy.

Not really an accurate description of the Canadians I know. I would buy it all but the humble part, loud and obnoxiously confident would better fit the bill. And yes, they like to drink!:beer;:beer;:beer;

Thats what I've been told.. Never had done much pavement work, more of a pipeline operator than anything.. Built a few thousand rig pads and dug a couple thousands worth of pipeline in piance creek, colorado.. Paveing is a whole nother world.. I like dirt, snow is more fun tho

I worked for Civil eng firms surveying roads and doing construction quantities for 15 yrs, then on to project management.....lots of contacts still. Story is that there's more than enough work this summer around Alberta for everybody. All work is bidded so all the gravey work will be low-balled....when all the big players have their fill, there will be less competition for other jobs. Are you guys subbing to one of the Alberta paving outfits? Not sure how your guys are used to doing it in MT, but in Alberta we build roads from sun-up to sun down every day that it's not raining.....EVERY DAY. Jobs are bid on EPS. (End Product Spec) Now in BC you get unions in the way and work 9 to 5 with an hour for lunch and weekends and holidays off. Jobs are handed out by the government and cost double to complete what it costs in Alberta...plus take 4 times as long to finish. Pace is nicer, but gets old fast.

We are subs to a company called Caliber Systems out of Calgary. I think they just doo dirt work ??? Our company does it all, I mainly work the paving end but get roped into some blade work in the spring and fall. And thanks for the heads up on Canadan :beer; but I dont drink Coors or Bud I prefer the micros like Fat Tire or Moose Drool ...Most American beers are little more than flavored water :face-icon-small-dis A decent Crown and seven is good also. My drinking days, till the cows come home are long gone :p I should be up there by the first of April. We plan on long days and 20 in a row then 4 or 5 off then back at it. So far so good as no negative replys :D Dino

Very true, we are bringing three roller hands with us for now and hope to hire some Canadians so that 1 or 2 of our roller hands can go back to MT. I have been thinking about Alaska but I have been with this company for 13 years with the last 3 being a foreman. Pay is good, retirement decent, upper managment is ok. Good hands are treated very well, bozo's and culls leave very quickly. Dino
