Octane boosters

What have you guys found to be the best ones? It seems that alot of them say that they have the maximum allowable MMT but it seems like the NOS stuff is the only one that actually tells you how many points you are gaining. Any actual scientific proof of which one is better would be cool, or just what has worked best for you over the years.:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;

lucas oil and torco accelerator are the only two i know of that actually do anything, heres a test done with them. they tested them on certified knock motors and a octane meter.. argh.. cant find the online thing, but read it a few times myself.

used torco accelerator in my cobra. others with knock sensors have used it and got solid results while datalogging. it's not a replacement for race gas IMO, only use it if you need to add a couple octane points to pump gas. it also turns your plugs a funny color.

I'm with Mule on this one. They should market that crap with the Sham-Wow dude. If I were you, find a station that sells 91 unleaded WITHOUT ethanol, find a place that sells Tolulene and mix appropriately or buy some race fuel and run a race/pump gas mixture. Don't buy that Octane Boost chit from Wal-Mart or the gas station. They make that stuff for the teeners that buy it by the case cause they think it actually makes their poser street racers go faster. IMHO.:D

I use Torco in my car over the summer when I run a 93 octane map (best gass here in ak is 90) it does work, it's the only thing I trust. Not sure how safe it is for two strokes, ran it in my polaris 600 cfi a few times and didnt seem to cause harm, not sure if im going to run it in my new sled.

click on this page then each test...lucas and nos bring 93 octane to 98 .lucas being cheaper then nos...up here lucas is 11 bucks and nos 15 and lucas goes abit further..torco is in a league its own.can actually get 91 octane to 105 with double dose..also torco is unleaded

follow link above...I use the Lucas booster, and it works...I run a boosted sled, and have had NO issues with it...I only needed 3-5 points and it more than does that in my tank...

and if you watch for it on sale, you can get it for $6 a bottle...I bought the store out last time...

find a place that sells Toluene
Good luck with that one.

In addition to being used as a fuel additive, that stuff's used to crystallize methamphetamine. Can also add some nitric acid to it, and along with some heat make TNT (The explosive). When mixed 1:10 with n-propyl alcohol, that solution can be used to do thermal stress analysis on injection molded polycarbonate parts (TnP test). This is why i know about the stuff :)

As a fuel additive, it's not taxed the same as higher-grade gasoline. As a reagent in drug/explosive manufacturing, its sale is obviously restricted to legitimate customers. We have to fill out half a dozen forms to even talk to someone about purchasing toluene (or most other aromatic solvents). If you find a place that'll sell it to consumers in gallon sizes without tons of paperwork, let me know ;)

I'll say it again... just buy decent gasoline to start off with and don't dick around with this additive stuff.

I'm with Mule too. We used to mix tetraethyl lead to our gas to get high octane. That stuff is expensive, and make sure you wear gloves and a mask when mixing it, it's bad stuff. I know they used to (maybe still do, not sure) use it in Nascar to get way high octane in their cars. We used that for a while but decided it's easier and about the same price to just buy race gas. As for additives, like Mule said, polishing a turd. If you insist on using them, Lucas is the best IMO. Most of them are, like others have mentioned, for the little rice burners with sweet decals and lowering kits that drag main and think the $10 bottle of octane boost turns their car into a 10 sec. car. The stuff might raise you a point or two, or maybe clean an injector, but if you buy crap gas in the first place you'll still have crap gas, but with $10 of "Barely Street Legal!" stuff in it. It's mostly just marketing to get the kids to buy it.

I will be the first to ask, why? Do you need it? Does your sled call for race fuel? Running NOS or Boost? If not, then Why?

The basics of Octane are simple, the lower the octane rating you can run your engine on and NOT detonate, is the octane you will make the most power on. Octane is the rating of (basically) how difficult fuel is to ignite. So you run higher octane fuel in vehicles with higher compression or higher combustion pressures(NOS/Boost). Because lower fuels pre-ignite.

My sled says in the manual it only needs 87, that is all it gets. Anything more is paying for nothing.
