Obama shift on gay marriage unleashes Hollywood's star power

"Just as Obama is heading to Hollywood for what promises to be a blockbuster fundraiser, his shift on gay marriage is getting rave reviews in the entertainment world."

Well isn't that special? (in my Dana Carvey Church Lady voice)

I don't think this was a philosophical shift, just a public show of support.

The legal aspects of a committed relationship should be afforded all couples.:usa2:

Perhaps, but in my judgement a marraige is more of a religious union than a legal manuever to qualify for freebees.

I agree in principal but it appears that the "marriage" word is necessary to assure that all unions are dealt with equally under the law. (insurance, retirement, medical decisions, etc.)

In typical political fashion I can see why this would become a topic of interest. Who can appear as the lesser of two evils to get the votes? Obama couldn't possibly stand the same ground as his competitor now that it's coming down to the wire.

Mitt = Opposed to gay marriage. WWOD?.........

We all know that the uppity-ups in Hollywood have expressed their opinions when it comes down to gay marriage. Most are in favor that I have seen. I don't agree with it, but I have always been counseled on a faith-based principle of what a 'marriage' should consist of. I know this will be a huge factor in electoral finishes. However, I believe a lot more effort in each candidates campaign should be put towards the real issues in this nation that a President of the United States will have to face. Who gives a crap who can marry who if we are facing anarchy and civil unrest in the next decade?

It IS a legal maneuver, but I don't think it is meant to qualify for freebees. Civil unions to mean the same thing as a marriage.

I can't wait for you old guys to pass on so we can get past this issue and get on to focusing on the debt you are going to be leaving us..

It's always been 1 man plus 1 woman equals marriage. If we change it why can't we start changing the variables like 8 women plus 1 man equals marriage, or 10 men plus 15 women equals marriage? Where does it stop?

Why does it matter? Why is the govt dictating / defining what marriage is?

I think heterosexual couples would have more of a leg to stand on with respect to marriage if the divorce rate wasn't close to 50%. I think we should let gays and lesbians marry so that we can get the rate lower.. lol.

The Hunger Games will be a reality.....

LOL

Haven't seen it, but heard it was good. Whenever my wife acts so excited about new movies I start getting paranoid like it's some kind of Twilight phenomenon all over again or something. Guess I'll have to look into this one and find out.

You are correct, the debt should be paramount over everything, because the course we are on is NOT SUSTAINABLE.

However, we cannot become a morally depraved nation either.
Abandoning our values is as irresponsible as the debt we are leaving the next generation.

You can argue all you want, but our ancestors did not lay down their lives so that the "Rod Riders" could display their perverted behavior in public.
That garbage needs to be kept behind closed doors.

The queers don't have to be ashamed, but they should not be proudly parading their rump ramming for others to see.

whose to say gays and lesbians will lower the rate? The gov't can't force marriages on churches, if gay people can find churches that allow it then so be it.

I guess the thought is that if people are trying to fight for it, it probably means more to them then the rest of us...

As to finding churches that allow it... getting a marriage certificate is a state form. All it takes is a signature from a judge and 100 bucks or so. It is just paperwork, state paperwork though. Churches don't have to be involved at all.

I am always suprised at the level of ignorance the gay marrigae debate brings to light. I myself find the idea repulsive but I find the the idea of surpressing the freedoms of others in this THE LAND OF THE FREE down right sickening.

I thought it was legal in most states?
