Obama signs appropriations bill giving funds to Recreational Trails Program
President Obama has signed the 2010 Interior Department and related agencies Appropriations Bill which gives funds to the Recreational Trails Program, according to the American Council of Snowmobile Associations.
This bill provided large increases for the National Park System, 17% increases , on top of an economic stimulus law in February that provided the Park Service with an extra $1 billion for a broad array of projects.

The Recreational Trails Program......
As many of you know, the Recreational Trails Program is near and dear to the hearts of snowmobilers -- as well as many other trails users. Through the years it has provided much needed money for trail building, bridges, equipment, safety and education.
The funds for this program are derived from our gas tax dollars -- the federal gas taxes that we spend on using our recreational vehicles. This program is a very small portion of the Highway Transportation Bill.
The current transportation bill expires September 30, 2009. There has been much discussion on the reauthorization of this legislation, but the House and Senate disagree on both short-term and long-term spending on these programs.
The Obama administration has recommended an 18-month extension.
The House Committee has some draft language, but it is still draft/blue print. The legislation has blanks in the dollar amounts and has not been given a bill number.
The Senate is tossing the responsibility between two committees, the Environment and Public Works and the Commerce Science and Transportation.
When your legislative leaders are back in the district during the month of August take the opportunity to remind them of the importance of RTP to your area -- bring it home to them. Give them examples of projects that have been completed, how it continues to benefit the area, i.e. jobs, economic impact, tourism, etc.
And the voting record on this bill by our elected officials: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h2009-826
