o2 sensor

How do you tell if an o2 sensor is shot?

Mine used to work great but then over this past summer it started acting different and wouldn't read what it was suppose too. and now when I start the sled the gauge will read 14.8 and not move no matter how long the engine runs or any kind of throttle movement. Does this mean its shot or is there something else I'm not seeing? Sled runs great other than that.

Also do any of you guys ever get alot of rusty/carbon out of your turbo exhaust when you first start it? I never got anything until after summer (which is the first summer i've had the turbo on it)

Thanks,
sledking

Most likely your wideband is dead, but make sure you check all your connections and look for any rubbing or melted wires. The default reading on the guage is 14.8 afr. What guage do you have? most sensors are readily available at local parts stores and have a 1 year warranty.

What fuel are you running?

IF it'll only hold one value...........it's toast. Time to get a new one that'll last. Something with an NTK sensor if the best choice to read the 2 stroke accurately and have a lasting sensor.

you can pull the sensor out of the pipe. take a rag and spray starting fluid or carb cleaner on it. power up the gauge and sensor. now take the wet rag and put it over the sensor. the value should go full rich. let go of the rag. the gauge should go full lean. if it does not do that get a new sensor.

super simple.

I have an AEM gauge and Im running pump gas 91 octane. I'm going to see if I can clean it first but if I have to replace it where is a good place to get one that will last? a NTK sensor? How do I know what is the correct one to get?

Is that a Bosch sensor? What is the part number on the sensor? I run a AEM guage in my Corvette but if I remember correctly it was not a common sensor. but you can google the part number to find retailers online or go directly to AEM for parts. They are easy to deal with. I always have a spare sensor on hand because I run straight 100LL. But I have had a sensor fail on vehicles running unleaded.

I have whatever comes from silber is what I have. I know its an AEM gauge but I dont know what the sensor is. So I just need a new sensor not gauge correct?

What is the best way to go about cleaning em?

I have used them with my AEM Gauges for years with no problems

NTK PRT # 30-2001 NTK makes these for AEM

http://www.aemelectronics.com/wideband-uego-replacement-sensor-635

AEM Part Number 30-2001

OVERVIEW
This kit includes a Bosch 4.2LSU sensor for use with any AEM Wideband UEGO Controller or Gauge.

The Bosch 4.2LSU sensor, which gives AEM Wideband controllers their speed and accuracy, is laboratory calibrated at the factory and never requires free air calibration when used with an AEM controller!

KEY FEATURES
No free air calibration required - ever
Accurate to 0.1 AFR

BOSCH LSU 4.2 WIDEBAND UEGO SENSOR

Not calibrated for the NTK sensor, this is a Bosch LSU............

From the AEM FAQ's section off their website...................

Q: Can I use a different UEGO sensor than the one supplied?
A: No. The supplied Bosch sensor is calibrated specifically for AEM Wideband UEGO controllers.

This is what I am going to try and see if it fixes it

I got the sensor to work! I took it out and cleaned it with some carb cleaner put it back in and works great. The sensor was real rusty and dirty with carbon. So bottom line cleaning an o2 sensor with carb cleaner can fix your sensor if yours quites working. Thanks brycter for the tip!

ntk to aem

FYI NTK prt#24320 will work just fine with the AEM AF guage .
No calibrations needed just plug in and go..
I personaly have used them for years with no issues. :face-icon-small-win
