Nytro Turbo vs. supercharger?

I was wondering the same thing

I am contemplating a nytro XTX with a 1.75" track and a SC. should be a blast on the damn bumpy trails and should be decent for boondocking, not going to win any contests in the steep and deep but I bet it would make really good track speed and do better than people might think. I would like to run a "pump gas" Avgas set up to get around 220-240HP. (Don't know if that is doable but would be the goal)

2000, yes they make a pump gas setup for 220hp. Will it hang with a turbo nytro, no! It does have a fun factor and the bottom end is rediculous but doesnt have the legs a turbo does. Ive installed both and have ridden both, supers are fun and a blast if your looking for descent instant power. If you want all out power go with a turbo.

Also, by cutting out the tunnel protectors and dropping to a seven tooth driver you can run any track you want on the xtx. The 1.75 track is fun but leaves something to be desired in fluffy snow, trenches like crazy with its hard paddle. just my .02

I think a s/c would be great for what you want to do with it. If you want instant throttle response get the s/c. I was out two days ago and i'm still sore from the pull and throttle response !! These sleds on boost flat out rip!!! If you want to climb hills and ride trails you can go with a s/c or you could also try a Impulse turbo as they have very awesome throttle response. I have two buddies with them and we all have a blast together. My s/c won't keep up to the turbo'd sled's though. A s/c will be half the cost though. So for my money I would take my s/c over any turbo. If I wanted to race and climb the highest I'd go with an Impulse turbo as I don't think any turbo will even come close to the impulse turbo. Just my 2 cents and hope this helps you out.

so you bought youre supercharger for 3500-4000$ ?

Thanks for the info guys, I need to go ride with you guys this winter, I have ridden a S/C Nytro, never ridden a turbo. I may be getting old because I don't feel like I need to be the guy that gets the high mark every time. I may kick myself later but I am looking for something I can trail ride with the wife when she is willing to go but still ride with the guys on occasion. What I think I am hearing though is if I go this route look for a say a 2" challenger so it works better off trail. Not a bad idea, I know the 1.25 rip saw isn't going to get it done for me.

rednytro, kits are 4999, 5500 installed here. The stage 2 kits are another 500.
So sounds like the turbo set ups are 2-3 grand more. Haven't ridden a turbo, sounds like maybe I should stay off of one and save myself a couple of g's :)

2" challenger will work with the stock 9 tooth drivers, on a XTX (with the protectors removed). I have a 2" 16" wide on mine, and can fit my fingers between the lugs and front heat exchanger.

sounds like a good deal then . just make sure when you get it set up it comes with all the gauges and some people were also installing blow off valves on the SCs as well . just make sure youre not hit by hidden cost down the road :(

You don't need a boost gauge as they are non adjustable unless you change pullies. You do need an a/f gauge though. For tuning purposes, but these are a couple hundred bucks. Big deal. Also you will have to pay for these gauges with any turbo kit you buy as well, They don't just come with the kit for free!!! If you think they do , you are very uninformed. Also if your read or have done any research on s/c you would know they do not require a blow off valve. They release presure different from turbo's. So right there you already saved a couple hundred bucks. Mac at MPI has said many times they don't need blow off valves. I've rode mine two years and never needed one!! So you need a s/c,clutching and a a/f gauge and that is all. You can easily install it your self and save some money, mine took a couple evenings after work. MPI has some of the best instructions i've ever seen. Very easy to follow.

I like the MCX turbo but there are lot's to choose from. No A/F guage needed, no need to adjust. I would put a boost guage on though. Stage one is gas and go on 12-14lbs, premium pump fuel but you need a headshim for that setup, 230-250hp. There's no lag on a Nytro unless you want to clutch one in. Supers are fun too, as long as you don't ride with turbo's. They definitely hit harder off the bottom but the turbo's pull longer/harder. Try and get a ride.

There are some turbo kits that come with gauges included. Whether you consider that "free" or not is a different story.
Although Mac and MPI say not to use a blow off or bypass valve on the kits, some people have had much better performance with these installed.
Turbo kits can be found for about $1000 more than the Supercharger so the price difference is not as big as it is often made out to be.
It seems most of the kits around today are very good and reliable. So it is just up to which of the advantages you are looking for.
The powerband is very different in the turbo/supercharger comparison, so I would think that would be your first decision. And with that being said, I have had customers switch to turbo sleds as much to change the bottom end hit as to get the higher top end power.
