Nytro starting troubles

First start in the morning, have to try the ignition switch maybe 10 times before the starter will engage. Once the starter moves, will start up fine. The rest of the day works great.

The only thing you heard was a "click" when you turned the ignition, then i believe you have trouble with your "STARTER RELAY ASSY" "3EL-81940-02-00"

nytro starting troubles

When I turn the starter switch on the fuel pump runs for a few seconds but when I turn the key all the way to the right to engage the srarter I don't get anything, no click.

Sounds like the starter relay to me. It is a common problem on the nytros. I paid around $30 for a new one from a place online. You can take a screwdriver and jumper across the terminals on the starter relay to start it if you ever need to out on the snow.

Now that I think about it, I was also getting a "click" when I'd turn the key all the way to the "start" position. If you're not getting the "click" then make sure you are getting voltage from the key switch to the relay when in the "start" position.

Ok, then it's not the one i thought, it sounds as the usual freezing relay
RELAY ASSY 8FP-81950-01-00 ~$30

If you get the "click" but the starter doesent react then it's the one i said earlier, that cost ~$35

my apex is doing this same thing. e dont click or anything though but eventually it turns over. once its running it starts every time.

I thought it might have something to do with moisture on the starter or relays. We have been in deep powder and getting a lot of snow on the motor. I ordered a couple of relays, will try changing these . Thanks all for your ideas

Riverbottom rick-- We have 3 09 nytros doing the same thing. I tried cleaning the relay/solenoids VERY thouroughly but it only made it slightly better. A dremel tool with a small wire brush is perfect for the tight areas. Don't forget to pull the fuses, they all had corrosion on the spades. Clean EVERYTHING. Also, dielectric grease when reassembling sounds like its a must. The other thing that I added was a piece of inner tube zip tied over all the connections. The air vents let snow in right on top of the connections. I used 2 zip ties on top and 1 on the bottom to hold it away from the oil reservoir- so far so good. You would think Yamaha would come up with a hard cover to protect this stuff!!!! One other hint, if you get stranded out, the 1/ 4 turn pins that hold the hood /side covers on will work to jump across the 2 bolts on the relay/solenoid.(with the key on) Good Luck SVNytro.

starting troubles

When the sled is in the warm shop or outside when it is warm it starts first time every time. Thinking there is moisture in a relay that freezes when it gets real cold overnight. I will check all fuses and clean the blades to get good contact. I also put a 150 watt heater on belly of sled to warm up before start up. thanks
