Nytro Oil Tank - other options??

Are there any other (aftermarket) oil tank options for the Nytro?

$230 for a OEM product thats going to break again isn't really a wise choice..

Are any aftermarket guys recognizing this issue and building something that doesnt crack n break?

Where is it failing?

the bottom 90* angle block thats attached to the can.
it cracks (pulls away from) the can itself and cracks around the edges.

weather from viberation, or prob more possibly when its laying on its side agains the side panel and gets pushed around some...somethings gotta give.

sick of cleaning oil out of the plastics, skid plate, off the floor...etc...

I had mine welded by a prefessional welder who beefed up the area around the fitting.

Then, I had an additional full length mount plate welded onto the mount tabs, to keep it from flexing when on it's side (which happens to me a lot!!).

Over 1000 miles like this with no issues (knock on wood).

Modsledr, any pics of your fix and mod? Thanks

Sorry, no pics....I just looked and without pulling the tank, not much to see.

The plate is made from .080" 6061 aluminum, and extends from the top 2 mount holes to the lower mount hole (the full length of the tank).

Part of the problem was the stock tabs are very weak and flex when the sled is rolled. All 3 cracked and allowed the tank to flex/vibrate and the tank cracks around the lower fitting.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know who I'd contact about warranty within Yamaha?
I bought the sled used from the SLC, Utah area, thus using the original dealer isn't really a viable option.
I don't even nec. need the work done by a dealer, I just am wondering if a part only can be sent under warranty.
I thought I had read that some are getting this replaced under warranty??

Modsldr, is this pretty close to what you did?

Yep, that pretty much nails the mount plate. The weld on the bottom is just the boss that is part of the tank, not the removable fitting.

rotax, if your sled is still under warranty, then any Yamaha dealer should be able take care of it.

as long as sled is still under warranty, you should be able to get it warrantied at any dealer...

mine just did the same thing...hairline crack for about 2" around base...right where part 4 connects (it is a diamond shaped piece attached on the tank) around that piece is where it cracks...too much flex on there...possibly needs some flex tuber there or something? or just a bead put down around it, really thin aluminum right there...

here are pics of the crack...
