nytro fuel mileage

been wondering the same thing........ a little nervous about riding up in the steep & deep with no spare fuel the 1st cpl rides. will have to fix the fuel hauling issue, but nice to know that we can run pump gas(for now) & buy from anyone on the hill.

T-bone

I was expecting better fuel mileage. First ride out I burned half a tank in 2 hours of steady riding! I was shocked with its deep snow performance in stock form, but I went out expecting nothing much. Nice ride though, best chassis ever! Anyone else have a split second pop or lean spot when accelerating? I also found that a steady crusing at around 4-5000 rpm there will be an odd pop. 8400 is all she is running now, waiting till someone else on here figures out the best setup. The dealer filled it up with regular fuel duuuhhh I'll try again with better fuel before I question them on the "pop".

I noticed the pop and miss also!

It definitely was not the rev limiter. It seemed to happen when running it hard in powder. When you flip the throttle, it would pop and miss. Once cooled back down, it went away. Very bothersome to say the least!

The clutching is WAY off. I could pull 8800 rpms up the trail and on hard packed snow. In powder I only got 8300. In powder on a climb I could only hit 7800!! The secondary isn't back shifting like it should. I'm going to try tightening up the secondary 10-20 degees until the motor is broke in. At that point, I'm hoping someone has a kit out that works! The sled does handle like no other, tho!! :)

BTW, elevation was 8500-10000'

I'm averaging 9 mpg, mixed trail and WFO powder. Worst tank has been 7.7 which was mostly heavy wet deep snow and very little trail. I have 397 mile so far so I'm not expecting much of an increase.

that is exactly how mine was acting at 4500 to 5500', dealer said the miss and bog were from the clutching but it doesnt seem to run very well for a fuel injected motor. works good on the road but sucks in the pow!

i think i am going to take it out this weekend and play with the clutching and try to get this thing working good so i can see if the motor is still going to bog and stumble before it gets boost.

oh yeah mine is getting 7 mpg.

At what RPM on the Nytro does the rev limiter hit?

Also, what RPM are the Nytro's suppose to work best at?

This is the Mtn version still stock, mostly run at 5000-9000. Going out for the first time with the sled to see how she does... sounds like I'm going to need extra fuel.

Thanks...:)

What fuel are you running?

Hey you nitro owners that noticed the miss did you guys do any exaust mods? I am going to try one more exaust setup then it's time for a control box and o2 sensor if this miss wont go away. It's getting f-ing anoying!

I have a hard believing that a pop and a miss is clutching. I would be looking in a different direction, pop/miss is usually air/fuel, powder cloging, not clutching.

No exhaust mods here....Still stock!!

Mine does the pop. Aound 9k', 35*, 3' of bottomless with a Yoshimura muffler.
A pal also has one, all stock does the same thing.

I'm not going to worry about anything until it's broke in. Not going to mess with the clutching because I know it will change once it's broke in. I hope the "pop" goes away, its annoying. Don't seem to affect performance though.

Rode this week up at Togwotee....deep deep deep, and did I mention deep?

We had a 600 SDI in our group and I consistently (over the three days) burned less fuel than he did. However, with the 7.4 gal tank, I was on fumes coming back to the lodge while he still had a little left in the tank. The 800 Summit X had to add his fuel from his caddy to make it back to the lodge, so I guess the range of the smaller tank on the Nytro is similar to the 800's, just not as much quantity.

Thought about putting an extra fuel tank on the back, where I mounted the luggage rack.....but, after seeing how hot it got from the exhaust (even with the turnout) I'll avoid doing that until I can get an exhaust to exit out the tunnel. The heat from the exhaust was bad enough to melt the outer plastic sheath on my snow bunje INSIDE the tunnel bag......serious heat....don't think I'll put something flammable back there.

Mine does the popping/ missing thing too. Def not the rev limiter because it seems to happen when I'm in deep powder, back off the gas, and then it hesitates/ pops when I hit the gas again(no where near max RPM which would be the REV limiter). Does not really seem to effect performance.

Does anybody notice the popping/ hesitation/ missing thing when their on the trail?????

The miss happens anywhere any conditions trail, pow, up or down hill very frustrating! Dealer said they would not touch it until it reaches 300 clicks. I have tried regular and premium fuel with no difference. I have 150km on it. Thanx for the reply on the exaust now I know that is not it.

So far, I've only noticed it in the powder. I think snow is building up under the air box, which is the intake area. Just a guess at this point, however.

Are they really missing or just popping. If the sleds are anything like my YZ450F, it pops a little anytime but when jetting and air\fuel screw are perfect (almost never in the mountains). More than normal popping can be attributed in the bikes to small exhaust leaks where the pipes join or meet the can.
