Nytro Best 153-156 track options??

I'm going to put a new track under my Nytro but at this point I'm not going to turbo this sled for a while, just going to keep the old turbo sled for now. The thing I liked last year about the riding Nytro was the manouverability of the sled and also my wife rides it once and a while so it needs to be easy to ride for her. I'm looking for opinions from guys who've ridden different combinations on the Nytro. I am not considering 162 or 174's the longest I want to go is 156. The real questions are paddle size and width. So 15" or 16", 2.25" or 2.5". What's the deal with this Powerclaw?, is it going to turn out to be another Attack 20 POS or is it proven? The 15" Maverick is not near as good as the 16 IMO because the outside paddles are so narrow now that when you pull the sled over there is nothing left biting the snow so it has to go. One last thing is I've got a Timbersled skid for it as well and I'll be yanking 60-70 lbs out of it and doing some mods to get a little more power and track speed.

OK lets hear it.

Camo Extreme

I swapped the maverick on my Nytro for a Challenger Extreme and have been pretty happy with it. It has performed very well for me thus far. I stuck with 15" wide by 153" long with 2.25" lugs and haven't had any problems. I too use a timbersled rear skid and have dropped around 70 lbs from the stock sled weight. I have been really happy with the setup. Great all around traction and floatation. Just my 2 cents

the 15 wide 156 was to easy to flop over for me the 16 was still easy to move but i felt more comfortable on it. but i ride a apex 16 by 162. my wife likes the 15 but she is much smaller than me my .02

Flip the OEM track around........you'll be amazed.
A local who I have a lot of respect for did this (he's cheap) and was totally blown away in the performance difference.
Good luck

I ride with two guys that had the powerclaw most of last season one is a 162 & one is a 153 the track is one of the best all around tracks that I have seen it is not like the atc 20 I had one of those and it was great in powder but sucked on any thing els. I have ran the 153 and 156 I did not notice much of a diff. I also rode a friends Nytro with a 156x16 camo ext and it did handle different it is a tight fit but with a few mods it will work it does rub on the tunnel when side hilling. I think you get a little more float with the 16 but thats it. I think I will be looking in to a powerclaw 153 for this season and moving the skid back. I have Benn talking to Hartman and they make a kit for this. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the most I have been wondering the same thing. The plan so far this year is a timbersled rear skid Ice age rails and the maverick. I liked how nimble the nytro was compared to my apex I dont want to screw that up I had no idea how heavy the nytro was till she was stuck I always knew what the apex was heavy exept in the powder. My big concern is that I will have a powderlites turbo with 14 lb of boost on a 153 track.

This is a tempting option mostly because of the cheap part.LOL

Thanks for the good input this is what I'm looking for. Keep em coming.

I have the same concern I have a powderlites turbo also but I think with a good skid you can tame it down. Last year a buddy ran a mcx with stock skid and track it was a hand full to control and I never could use all the power it was just to squarely.for me I need something that is good all around I don't just bang on hills all day and I ride in the timber allot so thats why I was thinking of moving the skid back the foot print and angel should be better. I am not sold on the timber sled skid mostly the air shocks I think you could do better with a diff shock butt the fox are lite. It's a work in progress

So if you move the skid back what track length do you use and how does it affect the ride anyone done it

Been looking at the different track weights. Gotta believe less weight is going to produce better track speed.

153x15 Maverick 48 lbs
153x15x 2.25 Challenger 50 lbs
154x16x2.31 Powdermax 58 lbs (Needs driver change to 2.86)
156x15x2.5 Camo Extreme 57 lbs
156x16x2.5 Camo Extreme 60 lbs

Seems counter productive to take off 38 lbs on a skid then add 12 to the track maybe I will try it reversed and see how it works??

I don't know anyone ho has don this but it is the cheaper option. I'm with you on taking off # just to put some back on. I think liter is better for a track but paddle length will have sum factor and track with the more track on the ground the more power it will take to turn it. the taller the paddle the more snow it will grab to move depending on the snow. If you have a turbo this is not much of a factor

If you wanna stay that length go with the polaris series 5.1 155. It's way lighter than all of those

What pitch is that one and any idea what it weighs? I'm really trying to keep/make this sled lighter for my wife and it's my backup when I don't ride my tiurbo sled.

I like the 156x16x2.5. It really works well just crawling around in the deep stuff and doesn't trench as much when you punch it, it just hooks.

Keeping the wife from getting stuck will make for a happy wife.

jsut got my PoweClaw...having ridden the 09 Cats, and seen it perform in DEEP fluff, and then on the trail, it is the track...just wish they had made it 2.5" but maybe that will be next year...

That's the kind of stuff she does all the time and with the Simmons Gen II's I have for it I'm hoping to make it even easier for her. When I ride the Nytro it's pretty well taped to the bars all day long. If I was turboing this sled right away I'd go for that track for sure but I'm a little concerned about the 60 lbs of rotating mass.

Well you can definatly move a skid to far back, for example a 151 skid w/ a 162 track is too much. you will ruin your sidehilling. also the more you move it back the stiffer the suspension will be. I think a 151 rail with a 156 track is about as much as you would want to slide it back. so about 2.5" max set back I have tried and they go straight/up/over great but do not turn/sidehill well soa 153 set back to a 156 should be great. any more and I think you start to suffer.

that is some good info I was thinking a 153 set back 2" on mine. M5 if your wife is going to ride it most of the time the 156x16 should be great the 16 wide doe's crawl around good do you think you would change your gearing to spin it ?
