Now what did I get myself into?

I have a 75 year old neighbor that owns a 80 next to me that pretty much had a tuff winter health wise & is really suffering from cabin fever. I was talking with him the other day & he has these old tractors, A Farmall Super H wide front & a Allis Chalmers G that have been neglected a bit & bothers him that they have not been ran in some time. I figure that I can make life a bit happier by getting these tractors going for him. The H is no problem, Flush the tank, clean carb & put a battery in it & Im working up his back field for him. The little Allis G is another story, I was figuring on dropping a couple hundred bucks by getting these tractors running would bring some joy to the guy & I would hope some day someone would do the same for me.

G no spark, cap-wires-pulgs-condenser-points-battery & no spark. Damn ignition switch so now I have spark, Drain the tank (damn awfull smelling crap) clean the carb & blow out the lines, Add fresh fuel for a crank w/spark no fuel condition
No & low compression stuck valves/piston, Let the engine set with marvel mystery oil over night to clean some crud up. Pulled the head & cleaned carbon from valves & chambers, Now waiting for more parts....... Cant stop now I guess:rolleyes:

I gotta get back to work;)

Gainster, thanks so much for doing that. I plowed snow on ranch roads for widows with my motor grader for years. They would try and pay and I always said no, I''l get my pay someday, well thanks, you have paid me now. I am 70 and I know how your friend feels. It brings a tear to my eye.

I knew there would be some Fouled Pluggers that could appreciate a good deed :D

Now I just need to throw out the challange for others to do the same no matter how big or how small. U can make a difference in someones life & its a Great feeling :D

Wolfrun that is a Beaver in your aviator correct????

It really does feel good to help people and and I too had a hard winter, health wise. I have been negative as hell, Obama and all, but now I have remembered it feels better to be positive. Thanks Gainster.

Yes that is a real nice rebuilt Beaver. I fell in love with them on all my Canadian fishing trips. I probably would own one but rebuilt they are over 400,000 US so I just look at all the pictures I have and remember flying them.

I remember as a kid, I used to spend lots of time visiting some of the older folks that lived in our little community. My friends used to bug me about wanting to spend time with these "geezers". I learned tons about family and commitment. 40 years later I still have this way of dealing with older people. I don't know what I do differently but I'm the one that gets the call when they need to talk. When my uncle passed away (on my wife's side), he never called his brother, his daughter, his blood neices or anyone else in the family. He only wanted to see me. When he wouldn't eat, they'd call me and I would sit with him. We'd talk and he'd start eating again. I don't know what I do, I don't baby them or push them to get out of bed either. When I took my father in law to the hospital last week, there was an older lady that was waiting for her ride to get her back to her room at the old folks home. She was so depressed and sad about not getting picked up by her family. She never fit in with the others at the facility she lived at and just needed someone to visit her once in a while. Volunteer to show up once in a while to an old folks home and pay someone a little visit.
Good on you to do something nice for someone else. Your friendship is probably the best thing happening int hat old guy's life right now.

I just hope I can get this G done before he figures out it's not in his barn:D He's a Great guy that lets us use his propety to get back to the river for our Paddle Palooza river trips so it's the least I could do, He will not take any money from me even to help pay his taxes. He let me make trails through his woods for my Ranger XP that conect with my trails. Last summer I took him for a ranger ride with my 5 year old baby girl that he adores, He had the best time & said he seen parts of his property he has not seen since he was a kid. Also said of all his family my family is the only one to enjoy the use of his property, Like I said he has had some health issues & about a year & a half ago his daughters tried having him put in a old folks home........ If he was ready for that type of help I wold have still been there to support him. He was not ready for that in either my words or the doctors. Anyhow we got him home & a caregiver to check in on him & help run with doctor apts. I could go on but I think we all get the jist of it.

helping neighbor dig a 150' trench (his hoe, but he is scared to dig on slope) we always help each other out...

It's a great feeling to do something for someone who don't have the ability or means to do it themself. Positive rep for you gainster.

This is the type of thing that we as humans are suposed to do. There is no need for a community organizer. Just local people helping out each other. Good jod gainster...

you get the g goin have him come out to the field and do some work with it, it really brightens em up to see the old iron back in the field, done it myself:):)

Thank you all very much!!!!!!!!

This is the plan, I have total backing of my wife on this & it looks like from my SW Fould Plug family. I cant wait to get it done!!!!!!

Who would have ever thought waiting for tractor parts could be as bad as waiting for snowmobile parts?

Gainster, I'd be proud to be your neighbor. I had an older guy living next door when I moved in to my place 6-7 years ago. He was in a chair and couldn't take care of his place very well.

I always plowed his driveway and kept an eye on the place. I helped him get a bird out of his house when it flew in an open window and I let him stay in my house when he accidentally started a fire in his house and had to wait for the FD to clear the smoke.

He'd tell me stories of being in the concentration camps and how him and his buddies got loaded and dug a pond with a bulldozer in his back yard one crazy friday night and he didn't know until Saturday morning. LOL

He also warned me about his crackhead daughter and how she tried to kill him in a car crash to get her inheritance (!!!)

Unfortunately he passed away a year or two ago with no will and now I have to deal with his crackhead daughter living there.
