Not super impressed with Pro-RMK

Same as dragons and so on

im acctually happy to find some one that didnt like this sled but its by far not going to cause me to cancel my snow check. Just shows that every person is different

Like F-Bomb said.... I agree...

I spent time on the new sled...

I'm a smaller intermediate rider...It was night and day more nimble in the tight trees than even the super High dollar RAW (dragon) chassis sleds I've been fortunate to drive.

Also echoed by some super technical Top level large (6'3" x 260lb) guys that I've been fortunate to ride with over the last couple of months and on the ride.

The Dragons are good sleds... very good (I just spent the whole day, again, on a 2010 Assault)... the new sleds keep all the good points and evolve them into an even better package.

Sounds like someone changed the limter straps or pre-load to me.

The Pro-RMK has about as much in common with an XP as a it does a Yamaha Apex.

This thread really shows how fickle some people or is it wishy washy? After at least 30-40 posts on the Pro by riders of all brands giving a glowing report along comes one post not so favorable. Now buying decisions are being made based on one post. You will find a lot higher % of riders that don't like the IQ, the Cat or even a sled built by God himself. The fact is a very high % of those riding the Pro drooled all over themselves- talking about the top riders with opinions worthy of note.

The only reason I am second guessing is because it is for my wife and I didn't get to ride one. I know I could ride it. Just becuase one person doesn't like it doesn't mean most won't or it is a bad sled. I know she doesn't like the xp or the IQ. I know she likes my tm8 so that is the reason I am wondering. I can get her an m8, and know she will like it, but I was thinking about getting her the pro without riding it. If she doesn't like it I will have to give up my turbo. To me, that is a good enough reason to be second guessing.

These threads are funny!

It's good, it's bad, it's an XP, my M8 is king, handles good, handles bad.....

I really don't want to hear how the XP pr M8 spanks the D8 anymore, I have seen all them out do each other in different situations at any time. If you ask me these sleds are all in the same boat and it's really only a matter of which brand and which chassis you like the best.

That said the "Pro" is a much needed step in the right direction for Polaris! I think they have given us (the mtn. segment), what we are always trying to build in our garages, beleive me I have built a ton of them. Let's bolt on some HP mods and ride!

BTW Polaris if you are reading, do something about the drivers on your sleds! I ordered one and want it done, so it should be!!!:hurt:

Sorry wasn't picking on you just browsed the thread & surprised at some of the posts. My first comment to my dealer was "now you have a sled that gal's will love as much as the guys". It loses none of the good points of the IQ but improves on stability and ease of handling. There were a lot of ride reports a few weeks ago, here's on that has some good eval's for anyone that missed out. http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=208724

do the pro rmk's have different extroverted drivers or the same ones as before?

The one we had in Cooke City to ride which was supposedly a 'production' piece had some sort of difference in the drivers to combat the ice buildup issue.

This is fact! They did make a change to the center driver to combat the problem, but who knows if it works??

Somebody Please Post Some Video of the PRO RMK

Somebody please post some current NON Polaris Promo video clips of people actually riding these things. I am an XP rider that is really considering crossing over to the new PRO. You can really get an idea of how different sleds handle and perform by actually watching them in action. Especially with real people not the Pros riding them. Although I'm sure it is blasphemy to write this I love my XP except for the sidehilling thing. And that was visually evident in the Ski Doo promo videos back in Spring 08'. So I'll ask again, some of you who have been out riding the new PRO with your cameras in tow (there has to be a few out there) ..........PLEASE POST SOME VIDEO here or on You Tube.
Thanks in advance. :peep:

My plan is to give my almost new 09 D800 to my wife as I sold her old ride. She also likes my new D800 which is a bonus.Even though the economy is still in the crapper it looks like I am fortunate enough to be able to afford a new sled next fall.I am reluctant too snowcheck for 2 reasons the biggest was we out west never got to demo a sled ,second I think I paid too much when I last snowchecked.I will wait until next fall and take out one of my local dealers demo for a whole day and make sure the pro is for me.Last fall dealer also sent out early notices if we bought in sept -oct we would get about $1500 off as loyal customers.I will wait and keep building my cash so I can pay for it all up front.Other option if I don't like the pro is a cheap holdover 10 model

I rode the 2011 Pro 3/30/10 up at Daniels Summit and was totally impressed. The main reason I wanted to ride it was to see if it rode like an XP, being it looks so much like an XP. Please, no offense meant to XP owners... to each their own. I have a good friend who rides an XP and he seems to have figured out how to ride one... I have not figured the XP out. They just want to flatten out for me and not hold the carve angle I want. When I read the post above talking about the Pro riding like an XP my jaw hit the floor. You gotta be kidding me!!! The Pro I rode was nothing like an XP, except for how it jumped up on top and took off when heading straight. The handling of the Pro I rode was perfect. I carved and carved, and sidehilled and sidehilled, all day long at all different carve and sidehill angles. It held at whatever angel I wanted for as long as I wanted with total ease. No trying to flatten out. There is no way I could have ridden an XP the way I rode the Pro. The snow conditions were as bad as it gets for carving and sidehilling too. Spring hardpack frozen crust. The only somewhat soft snow we could find was on the direct north facing hills, and in the trees. I rode the Pro with the "RMK 6" sticker on the side for what it's worth. I even tried the most difficult handleling maneuver I could which was going down about a 35 degree slope really slow then carving a slow, slow turn to change direction, and then back up the hill. And I mean right in the middle of the hill, not at the flat bottom. I did this move 4 or 5 times with both right carves, and left carves. No problem with it. When I got on my 09 Dragon 163 on the same hill I could not perform this maneuver. That did if for me. I think one of the reasons I had trouble doing this same trick with the 09 Dragon was that the PRO is so narrow in the bulkhead and side panels that it didn't "boot out" as they say in snow skiing. My Dragon side panels would start to hit the snow and I just couldn't make this specific carve as I could with the PRO. If I tried this mid hill maneuver on an XP, forget it, no chance, it would have been straight to the bottom flats before I went back up the hill. Again to each his own, not trying to bash XP's. I'm a very good rider but I just can’t seem to boondock an XP the way I can a M series, or the IQ's. Something was very wrong if anyone out there thought a new PRO boondocks anything like an XP... totaly different handleing. Trail riding back on the PRO was incredible. I'm not a trail rider as most of you are not either, but we have to pay our dues to get to the good riding. This PRO would not bottom out, and I tried as hard as I could in the long rock hard whoops that we were on. I maybe got it to come close with a 3 or 4 foot drop right into the belly of one of these long whoops. My Dragon... well I had no problem bottoming out on the same trail. If I had the money to snowcheck one of thes Pros I would in a heartbeat. My 2 cents for you.

That Pro demo you rode must not have been setup properly because they threw some 2010 Dragons in with our demo ride and I got stuck on one on the way in. I haven't played with an IQ very much so I played around on it to give the Pro a good comparison. As soon as I got the chance to get on the Pro I did not want to go back to the IQ especially on that bumpy trail ride in....there was no comparison, the IQ sucked after I got on the Pro.
My buddy has an xp and I would have to say the Pro has more in common with the xp then the IQ...IMHO.

Don't know if you have seen these or not (although they are from Poo, they are from the demo's). Except for the camera guy trying to put words into peoples mouth's, there not bad. Somebody has to have some home video shoots of these. Where are they?

Well, everything went good and I got to ride the new sled.

I first rode a 2010 RMK 155 with the new ECU. Wow, what a difference. Very crisp power from before with NO hesitation. Then I rode a 2011 M8 153. Of course, tons of power. If you have riden one before you know what I am talking about. I like the Ms alot, very fun sled. However; nothing like the IQ with the abilitly to "flick" it around. Then the sled I was waiting for showed up. Not quite the exact sled but it will atleast help me make my decision. It was the Assault switchback 144. This is Paul Thacker's personal sled. It was 100% bone stock. I am not sure how someone could say this thing rides like a XP. The best way to put it, and it has been said a few times now, is that it truely does ride like a improved IQ raw. The snow conditions were not the greatest, however I feel it was a fair compairson to myself cause all 3 were riden on the same crappy snow. And the new one was by far superior IMO!

This has helped me make up my mind. I will be snowchecking a new one. Just have to decide on 155 or 163??????

This post is 100% my opinion, only intended to give my thoughts and to try and help others with their decision! Unfortunately I do not receive any kick backs from Polairs....IF they want to I will except them lol

I won a trip thru Polaris to go on a 2 day ride with Burandt's back country tour and he had the normal 2010 sleds with mods and a stock except for clutching 2011 assault and a pro rmk both had the clutching dialed in for rabbit ears elevation (which is way higher than I'm used to) and they both ripped.I got as much seat time on both 2011's (I was accused of being a new sled hog and imo Polaris has got it right this time.I liked the assault over the rmk but both went where ever you looked.
And if you ever get a chance to follow Chris around for a day or two DO IT what a frickin blast.

Thanks but I have seen all of them. I really would like to see us riding them. Not Polairis Promo stuff where the camera guy is really putting words in the guys mouths.

3 of us spent the day on a new Pro-RMK 155. Its a very stable sled, too much so. It wants to stay planted like the Ski-doo XP. Did not feel near as playful as our 09 Dragons. Felt much heavier, in the front end, and was much more difficult to turn just using your feet. The Rep stated it felt that way because the chassis was so much stiffer. Yes it was better on the trails and bumps, will also be a great hillclimber, but they copied the XP way too much, Ski- Doo fans should love it. We stopped our spring order, going to keep our 09 and buy a left over 2010. Hopefully they will make future models more nimble again. All 3 of us felt it was way to stiff, and not near as flickable as the current IQ. The motor felt a little stronger in the mid, but not like you see in the videos. My 09 with a pipe and head mod felt a lot snappier. Just my 2 cents worth.

HOW DARE YOU NOT FALL IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!! Were they out of kool aid?

You must have calibrated eyes and ears.

You quoted:

How can you judge how strong the motor is doing by watching a video? Was the motor stronger than your 09, other than in the midrange or not? Maybe you should watch the video one more time. lol!

No worries I snowchecked one. Losing 40lbs equals about 6 HP gain.

I think your wife would love it. I am a woman, 5'6 1/2" tall at 145 lb. I tried for a season and a half to fall in love with the IQ chassis. Did everything I thought I could to make it easier for me to ride - I just couldn't love it! I was always upside down and just could NOT get used to it. I like to move the sled with my body, and I couldn't find my center with the IQ.

So, I jumped ship after 15 years on Polaris and bought a 2010 M8. I LOVE the sled!!! It's absolutely amazing to ride and feels like home - back to the same riding I could do on my Edge chassis. Home. My only issue with my cat is that it steers heavy.

Then I ended up riding with Jack Struthers in McCall and got to ride the Pro - 155". I gotta tell you - it was AMAZING!!! My impression was that it is VERY nimble in the trees, easily controlled by foot placement, lighter steering than the cat and power to weight ratio felt great. The best thing was that I ended up on my side and I could pick it up all by myself.

I would absolutely recommend this sled for a woman - especially based on the weight of it and how easy it is to ride. Immediately found my center and was boondockin like crazy! We snowchecked one for the hubby. IF he gets to ride it! :)

Don't hesitate! It's a great sled!!!

And there's my 2 cent rant!

:) 2fun
