not another m7 thread..

To start ive got an 05 efi m7 153 track (if it matters?) and im getting ready for the season

first thing, last year i got an MBRP can, i figured it wouldnt need the efi box
but when i went riding i had no top end, though the bottom end had more snap to it

my question is do i need to get a tuner box for it or is there a fix? (new y pipe, airbox, ect.)

next thing i wanted to ask is no snow running boards, whats the best brand (which looks best, which has the best grip, and which holds the least snow)

also, not so important but who should i order vents from? im looking for quality of product, and quality of service (i dont want to wait 2 months for them)

and finally would a two wheel kit really help my sidehilling? (not that its that hard on an m7 )
mind you i mostly wanted it for looks, just thought id ask

anyways, any help is appreciated
thanks
Levi

hi

so did you put the stock can back on to see if the can was hurting your top end also what rpm were you running did you need to reclutch for the can?

as far as the fuel box have you checked your plugs to see if it is running lean or rich
that would be the easy way to see if you need a box

moflow vents are great thats what i run also had good luck with fastlane and 2cool vents

bdx make a great 2 wheel kit and it does help ( atleast i think so ) and its cheap

thanks for the info

but i have yet to put the old can back on, i got it near the end of the season and forgot to bring it on my last trip out

as far as rpm she was revving out at 7900

and im going to run through the sled once i bring it home and ill check the plugs once ive got it home

M7

Hey there, no snows by fastlane work awesome I have them on my m8. get a set you'll love them.. As for vents check out 1100cat on here he sells them for a good price and out of bc. Also I just have the cat 09 2 wheel kit and it was only like $30 and looks and works good. Cheers!!

I like the CPC snow eliminators and you can make your own two wheel kit with the axle you already have. Just a little cutting and tapping. Its a real chaep mod.

I also have the cutler CPC no snow's look great work great.there is not a can made for the 7 that wont steal HP under load.we dynoed a few on fcats a few yrs back -2 to -4 hp on the 3 we tried air Horne also did nothing for HP

My .02: I would look at piping along with that can and/or a control box. Also, as far as vents, xxxmodrods makes a good selection for a decent price and they have shipped my stuff very fast. They don't have just basic venting either, if you're into some graphics looks or logo. I put the two wheel kit on my M7 and haven't ridden it yet but word on the street is that the sled will basically lie down for ya!

put the stock can back on and it will run fine. Get vents from fastlane, and their no-snows seem to work well too.

If you are DYING for a can, the only i've heard that works and doesn't mess with runabiliity is the SLP. Other than that one, all the rest are hit or miss depending on the sled. M7's just hate cans. Weird???

as for the two wheels kit, i had mine break when using the stock cat wheels and parts, but the sweet billet one from MPM i had worked on 3 sleds for 3 seasons, just kept new bearing in them and they worked gangster!

levi judging from the type of riding you do, i would recommend getting a custom set of training wheels fabricated for you, and wedging some sort of cork in the exhuast to tame the machine making it more suitable for you. :face-icon-small-win. but really looking for more top end? i have heard great things about turbine engines.

Johnroggers - thats halarious!:beer;

IMO If your sleds runs fairly good (no bogs) than do the following: (no box required)

Headwork - go to 14:1 or equivilant to your elevation
Clutching
GEO Mod
No-snows or similar
2-wheel kit.
vents
can

If I knew better in the beginning - that's what I would have done. Besides these are relatively cheep (sled speaking :eek: )

Here is some "light" reading for the evening on The effects of aftermarket pipes and cans on sleds...

http://www.2strokeheads.com/techcans.htm

I agree with what he says, and I run a pipe set and can, but I run them for weight loss. I got lucky and when I just had my mbrp can on the sled I didn't feel any major loss in power, or gain in power either. It was purely a weight loss thing for me.

thanks for the replies you guys :D

what is a geo mod and what does it do

i was thinking of getting a fuel box, and if i get that i may as well get a pipe (im doing it for weight loss mostly)
but if i go that way how hard is it to tune the pipe? is there any pre set programs for different altitudes? or is it all on the go tuning?

and i think im just going to hit up fastlane and get the no snos, vents and two wheel kit from them

and john, i just stepped up from the jag 340 and i want to make my sled a champ with weight so i can beat your jaws ;)

You can get some baseline numbers for your altitude and sled, but after that you will need to customize/tweek them to make them work for your particular sled because all sleds are a little different when it comes to the fuel pressure. It isnt hard to tune for a pipe just takes a little time. If your getting a pipe for weight loss being the main reason then I would skip the pipe and use that money that you would spend on a box and pipe and put it into a boss seat or other light weight mods. The pipe is nice and adds power, and drops a little weight but not much weight for the money.

well i want to get a boss seat, but then again

right now my sled is running just terribly cause i put a can on it (basicly for weight, but also sound) and i wanted to get the box so i dont have to put that stock suitcase back in there

so i might even just get a tuner so it runs well while maintaining the weight loss and then take the money fo the pipe and find a used boss seat :D

if posible could you post pictures, it just sounds like a good mod but i dont know what im supposed to do  haha
thanks for any info.

I know that no 2 sleds are the same but I also have a '05 M7 153" and I put a MBRP can on it and didn't lose (or gain for that matter) any seat of the pants horsepower. Sled runs just as good as with the stock can. However, I did have a similar problem with my sled where as it would run 7900 RPM on flat ground under minor load, but then felt real doggy on top and fell off when under load climbing and such. Turns out I cleaned/adjusted my powervalves and it fixed the problem. I would clean your power valves and make sure the power valve cables are adjusted properly and try that. Might have just fell a bit out of adjustment or started sticking a bit around the same time you installed your can.
