Not a good ending...

First of all, I would like to add my condolences to the family's involved. A terrible thing to lose those young men... I would also like to thank the rescue team that recovered them. Those guys were laying it on the line as well. I have seen differing reports on what happened, but from what I seen so far, it looks like they had some difficulty finding the victims. Does anyone know if they had beacons on? If they did was it a matter of just physically being unable to dig deep enough to get them out, with one injured? Just a question that is on my mind. I understand that the pressure on these guys was immense, and not trying to second guess there actions, just trying to provide more awareness for the rest of us. Some links I have found include. http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/...c7a57-06da-461c-bc70-ccc5a2e36982&k=53839&p=1

When the call came, we did not hesitate to close up shop, make sure everyone had shovels, probes and beacons, and headed out. Our thoughts were not anything short of, "get up there and find these guys"

The news story is correct for the most part, the only part I have issue with is the size of slide it was, and if you look in the second link it will show you the actual size.

To be absolutely honest, I'm not sure of the injuries sustained by either Derek or Travis, but when Derek was found his father had thought he felt a pulse, so CPR was administered. Unfortunately, Derek was not revived. Travis was found Christmas Morning.

The service was this afternoon and was received well.

Rest In Peace...

thoughts and prayers

Prayers and condolences go out to all:brokenheart: very tough way to remember Christmas. Let's all be safe out there and get home to our loved ones!

Thanks for the update, Reeb. I'm still wondering if a beacon search was carried out, if it was effective, or if Derek and Travis had beacons on? I just hate to see anyone in crappy situations without at least a chance of quick recovery.

Kris - so sorry to hear that this has happened to someone in your life. Our hearts go out to the friends and family of these two very young men who's lives were taken so abruptly.

I like what you put in one of your posts.......... Forever Sled'n

(Joe Shortt, avalanche.org) HEBER, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A snowmobiler has died after being trapped in an avalanche in Wasatch County.

Rescue officials say the avalanche hit near the Co-op Creek trail head on Highway 40 not far from Daniel's Canyon.

The man was snowmobiling with a group when he was buried by the avalanche. Members of the group saw him go under.

Rescuers immediately worked hard to dig the man out. He was recovered and paramedics on the scene administered CPR to him.

The man was flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. He was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses at the scene of the avalanche say the victim was under the snow for more than an hour.

His name has not been released.
