Hi All,
Rent a Northern, CA cabin in a snowmobile paradise! This cabin is located in the Silvertip Springs community, about 2 miles out of La Porte, CA. La Porte is about 3.5 hours from San Francisco, 2 hours from Sacramento and a bit over an hour from Marysville/Yuba City. La Porte is a unique small town nestled in the middle of the Sierra Nevadas in Plumas County that caters entirely to snowmobiling in the winter. The two lane road to and from the town is maintained by county snowplows and there is never traffic like the big freeways to other more populated mountain locations. There is some amazing riding out of La Porte and it’s hardly ever crowded. Even on the more crowded weekends, you can ride all day and see very few people. Lots of top notch tree riding, steep hills and all around beautiful country to enjoy with friends and family. The forestry runs a groomer on a hundred or so miles of trails which helps get to areas quickly.
My family has been riding out of La Porte since 1986 when we built our personal cabin. We bought this cabin a few years ago as a rental investment and we’re now looking for a winter tenant. We prefer to rent the cabin to someone for the entire season, but will rent it for a month at a time if we don’t source a good longer term tenant. We will not rent for less than a month. If you end up loving it, you can continue the lease through the summer and as long as you want!
If you rent the cabin, you get full use of it whenever you want. You could even live there if you wanted. It will be 100% yours to enjoy! There are only a few cabins in La Porte that you can actually access by car in the winter. The only way in and out of the rest of the cabins (including this one and our personal cabin) is by some sort of snow vehicle. Most people ride sleds, but some have snow cats or ATV/UTV’s with tracks. If you pack lite, you can just wear a backpack in. If you have lots of stuff (we usually do), use a snowmobile pull trailer. That is what most people do and it works great.
The cabin is ready to go! 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, large living area and kitchen and big deck if you shovel some. The place is furnished with everything you need, including all the kitchen/eating equipment, kitchen table and chairs, couches, lights, etc. Two of the bedrooms have large beds and the final bedroom has two twin beds. The cabin also has a large concrete floor basement (standing height in about 40% of it!) that can store all sorts of stuff. The basement is accessible through the inside and outside of the cabin. The cabin has hot water, washer, dryer, full kitchen including dishwasher and best of all, a newer propane powered 12kw generator. Utility power will sometimes go out in big storms and send people home, but not you! This generator will run the whole house, so let the storms roll in and the riding continue! The front entry door to the cabin in enclosed, so no shoveling on Friday night when you arrive. We even have the place stocked with good high temperature firewood.
This is an opportunity to enjoy a turnkey mountain cabin surrounded by top notch riding and in an environment that LOVES snowmobiles. The town of La Porte has a general store, deli, seasonal hotel, sports center (sells sled parts and repairs sleds – run by a knowledgeable and honest long time mechanic in the area) and a bar/restaurant that you literally ride your snowmobile up to. The bar is especially fun on winter weekend nights – full of a bunch of sled heads talking about where they went that day and where they’ll be riding tomorrow. It is an absolute ball. The LaPorte Snowmobile Club is the local club. Our family and several others on this forum are involved in it. I grew up riding here and am proud to call the town and riding community supportive of young riders and families.
