Noisy primary!!!!

Just put my 1st 90km on the Nytro & loved it all day long. rode in a cpl feet of fresh here in Golden & it pulled hard all day. It didnt pull thr rpm it needed, but a good day all in all................ until the trail ride down!!!! started making a slight rattling noise on the clutch side & gotr worse as I got closer to the truck. Trail ride is about 30 to 40 km to the truck & I ahd to slow down on the trail because it was so loud.
Now at home, we take the panels off to check the situation out, it's definitely coming from the primary. we grab onto the clutch & it has a tiny, tiny bit of movement when lifted up down. A knowledgable Yammy mechanic(from yrs ago) was here & figured it's the bearing. as i stated b4, the noise & slight vibration definitely got worse as the day went on. pulled the clutch off to see if there's movement in the shaft............. there is just a enuff movement that u can feel it.:(

Anyone else hear any noise out of the Nytro's yet or is it my Bearing already??? Was an easy trail ride in stopping a few times to check things over on the way in & a bit of playing up in the hills but nothing crazy today.

WTF could it be???

Have you tried torqueing it again just for grins? First one is 85 ft./lbs., then back it off a touch and re-torque to 43 ft./lbs.

Typical yammie noisey clutch. Some rattle like hell ; others are quiet. Luck of the draw. It won,t hurt a thing. keep driving it. my nytro at 100 miles just started getting noisey. My 03 RX-1 with a turbo rattled so bad it sounded like a rod gone in the motor.

when we pulled the primary clutch up & down, it had about 1/2 a mm of play in it(maybe less) & the same when we pulled the clutch off. i could feel a tiny bit of movement in it by hand. after 90 km of fairly easy riding on the first day........... seems strange to me so soon. or is that normal? the clutch has some noise coming out of it even with the belt off. i'm new to the 4 strokes, so i really hear different noises under the hood(especially the clutches(like Nikolai told me too), but this is a little nerve racking on the first ride

I'm not sure but if it is the same primary as what is on the Vector it is the bolt that holds the weight in. On the Vectors it has no set screws like on the
Apex/RX-1. Those bolts sort of vibrate a little and then you hear the rattle your talking about. Like i said i'm not sure if the clutch is the same or not but if it is don't sweat it, its normal. I put some o-rings on either side of the bolt head and nut and the rattle went away. Take a look and you should be able to answer your question.

There is no gear reducer on the Nytro,it has a coupler that attaches to the end of the and is supported by a big azz bearing, there should not be any appreciable play up and down.

There is some clutch noise on the Nytro, but the vibration should not be there. Take the clutch apart and make sure that it is all there.

Did you look at the clutch ? Does it have the set screws on the bolt that holds the weight in the primary ? If no set screws that is what is making your noise. Take a look.

The Nytro has the set screws for the bolts that retain the flyweights.

I noticed the primary on mine to be very noisy also at an idle with the cover off, however, I did not notice it while riding at all.

thx guys, i took the clutch apart & made sure everything was tight & all looks good. Just happened to chat with a Calgary dealer that was in town this morning at breakfast........ checked his Nytro out in his trailer & it has the same play & same noise in the primary. all must be good i guess. gonna go again tomorrow & see if it's doing the same & hopefully doesnt get any worse.

thx for the info & ideas guys. HAPPY YAMMY riding:beer;:D

the output stub shaft and bearing, do wear out, maybe you got a defective one? I've heard of them wearing out, upwards of 10,000 miles, on the rx's.

If you think the clutch is noisy now wait unitl you add some big weights to it like super tips. Mine rattles so bad you would sware its coming apart.

Its just the clutch have fun.
