No reverse after helix change out

I changed out my helix and since then, when I put the sled in reverse, the track jerks into reverse but that is it. It will not rotate the track. Works great in forward. What should I be looking for when I tear the secondary apart? Thought I had put it together the way it came apart.

Is the Helix that you installed designed for a sled with Engine Reverse?

After the angle numbers, there should be an "ER" stamped into the face. If it's not an "ER" helix, it will not work. If it is, check the secondary for any sticky points... add a delrin washer under the spring cup, check rollers, etc...

Even some of the er helixs will do that too. Some need to be filed out a little but even those will catch half the time. I'm betting its a non er helix.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will check out the markings tomorrow when I make it up to the cabin. I hope it is a ER Helix I just need to do some filing on it as mentioned. This is the first time I have ever changed out a helix. If it is a ER helix, what areas need to be filed down and what kind of file should I take along with me just in case?

That particular helix should give you good track speed while climbing. As to why it's not catching in reverse, I'd give the whole clutch a good cleaning and make sure the sheaves spin freely back and forth so the reverse notch has the opportunity to engage fully. If it still does not work properly, try filing the notch at the base of the helix a little deeper so the rollers can grab into it easier.

I will remove the secondary and take it back home with me. All my tools are in my garage. Is there a cleaner to use on the clutch parts and should anything be lubed.

You said you changed out the helix, what was in there before? Also what is the other angle on the helix. It's a team not a team tied?

I changed out the stock helix 64-38-36 er. The replacement is a Team part number 420719. It is dual cut with the 66-44-42 second cut.

The first thing I would suggest is put the old helix back in & try it. No lube in the clutch except on the shaft and I use a very light coating of vasoline just under the lip of the helix but nothing that will get inside the clutch. I don't know what sled this is on but still seems way steep for a stocker Just imho:face-icon-small-hap

I finally got a chance to put the clutch back in and take it for a spin yesterday. Worked 100%. I did use my die grinder to cut some material from the helix and while I was at it, I cleaned the clutch and changed the placement of one of the delrin washers. I had one on each end of the spring and took the one from the helix end of the spring and put it under the cup. Thanks guys for all the input.
