Night in the Snowies

S
Thank you to following people:
Chris, from Mountain Meadows Cabins, for finding us Sat. morning and getting our sleds back down the mountain;
Deputies Billy and Josh from the Albany Co. search and rescue for all their help;
The Albany Co. Sheriffs Dept. for the snowcat ride down the mountain;
The staff at the Laramie Hospital;
All the snowmobilers that offered us food and water at the Quiley warming hut, what a great group of people snowmobilers are.

Hope to see you up on the mountain later this year after we heal up.

THANK YOU
Kent & Laura

Yea, what happened??
I know it was cold as a grave diggers azz up there and the wind was going like crazy.

So glad to hear you made it out! We heard about you guys on Saturday morning and have been hoping you were found! Great job Chris and Search & Rescue for the quick action!

Glad to hear you two are ok. We were with the group that gave you food and water at the warming hut. Never fun to see that kind of thing but the final outcome was positive. I hope the toes are OK? This just reinforces the idea of carrying more than you think you need.

My friend Garrett and I were also in the hut when you got back. We are both happy you are doing well. Remeber no cotton socks next time please...... You (snowmobilelaura) were using my pocket stove to help provide some heat as we got the fire rolling. I took off after we brought your summit 600 back from up the trail, becuase one of our sleds was starting to not like how cold it was getting( no carb heaters on those old dogs). Did anyone grab my little stove or knows anything about it, it would be awsome to get it back.

Thanks
Chris Boyd

Great to hear everything worked out in the positive. Yea, I've never met any fellow snowmobiler that isn't willing to help when needed. Testament to the obsession!

The camp stove is still at the warming hut as of yesterday. Not sure what pictures people want but I might have gotten a little frost bite while peeing at 60 below windchill!! If I thought pictures would do it justice I'd send you some!

Very glad that you guys are all fine. What's the story? Please tell us. We can all learn from it, I'm positive of that. My hat is off to all of you folks that helped out. Excellent job!

Count your blessings

Glad to hear you guys made it out. It was super cold and windy up there Friday and Saturday. I'm curious if you had anything to eat or fire to stay warm.

what't the story?

As most experienced sledders will tell you, you get better by learning from your mistakes. I are smart ;) cuz I've made lots of mistakes.:o I'm sure many would benefit if the parties involved with this incident (snowmobilelaura) would elaborate. Always glad to hear it turned out okay. I've witnessed a body being brought back by search and rescue. If details from this recent incident could help somebody in the future, that would be great!

And yes! Chris from Mountain Meadow is a great asset to the Snowies! He knows the area and has helped more than a few!:D

The whole deal started when my sled went through the snow and slush into knee deep water. We had a heck of a time getting it out with our other sled and bungie. By the time we got it out it was getting dark (as luck would have it Laura's headlights both burned out) and it was starting to snow and blow so we dug a snow cave and crawled in for the night. As our luck continued to go south we couldn't get our lighter to light or our matches so we laid down for the long night. I tried to keep moving my wet feet all night so they wouldn't freeze, unfortunately they still got nipped pretty good. I won't know if I'll lose any toes for a couple of weeks.

Just a bad deal all the way around.

Thank you for all the advice, we'll definitely be better prepared because you never know what will happen.
Thank you

Chris finding you guys is the reason I stay with him everytime I go out there. He knows the area very well and has always been willing to help. I have spent a good few hours talking with him about some of the rescues he has been on. He is a great guy!!!!. Sorry to hear about your misfortune but good that you all made it back O.K.
