Newbie: Sled has problems starting

Like the title says i am a newbie but this is a ski-doo question so figured this would be the best place to post.
I have a 2004 summit 800 with 1300 miles on it

The problem:
The sled runs great all day and has no problem starting (starts 1st or 2nd pull) and then at the end of the day when i turn it off for about 3 minutes before i load it into the back of my truck it doesn't want to start. I take off the plugs and clean them off then put them back in and then it starts fine.

Then last night i went for a little trail ride with a few buddies everytime i turned the sled off it took about 30 minutes to start it. Each time i had to pull the plugs and cleen them off. What is worrying me is that it seems that the starting problem is getting worse.

Sorry for the newbie question but i was hoping that you guys might have some ideas on what is wrong.

thanks

Steve,

The first thing I would do is check the compression. 04's had some ring problems and they may be starting to flake. Are you running it real hard back to the truck? May need to just let it idle down a bit instead of just hitting the kill switch. But I would check the compression for sure. You may also need to check the DPM, if I remember right when it fails it goes into a full rich setting which may be flooding your sled. Make sure all the hoses are hooked up to it and there is no damage. One other thing to consider is a needle and seat in one of your carbs may be leaking by causing it to flood. Check the vent hose on your gas tank and make sure it is not kinked causing tank to pressure up.

soud to me like your seats in your carb bowls could be leaking and flooding your engine. It don't heurt it when it cold the extra little fuel sometimes even helps it start. but when she's hot it won't start. I had the same problem with my old 670

Also, make sure ya check to see if carb heat got turned on. Look for Red valve on clutch side, up by top of air box. After riding for awhile, it will boil gas in carb & vapor lock. Same symtoms, you can pull your guts out but it won't start til carbs cool down. Figured it out the hard way in 02 with Summit. Been disconnecting hoses ever since as my riding buds w/Pol's were there when I figured it out & thought it was great fun to switch carb heat on anytime I wasn't w/sled.

Check compression both cold and hot. Pull out the reed boot assembly and I'll bet they are delaminating, this is common and makes them hard to start.

hey

thanks for all the suggestions. I haven't got around to checking out the sled yet i will do it on the weekend. But when WINTER BREW says "Pull out the reed boot assembly and I'll bet they are delaminating" what do you meen the reed boot assemble is delaminating. What would i have to do to fix this problem???
