Newbie searching for a private demo ride near SLC

I know this is pretty bold for my first post ever and I apologize for that.

Just got recommended to the snowest forums from a dirtbike forum I am on. I have been intrigued with the snowbike idea since I was a kid. I have now moved out west(real snow) and have a "real" job and might be able to afford a used setup. I have been riding dirtbikes, motorcycles, and sleds since I was a teenager so I have riding experience.

I have been thinking of selling my street bike(or trading, hint hint) for a street legal single track enduro. Would really like a CRF450X. Since I moved out to Utah I have thought of buying a sled, they arent cheap, and the other issue is they are big! I have rode a few times since I was out here at a friends tour place and had a blast but the entire time was thinking how sweet a snowbike would be.

for me at my current fiscal situation I couldnt afford to buy a new kit. It would have to be used. The MH kit is fairly new and therefore not many options in the used department. But the 2moto has been around for a bit and are much more readily available. This seems like a great all around setup. The explorer obviously is the cheapest used... but I doubt this would be the right choice from my research.

So is there anybody around Salt Lake city who might be willing to let me try out their snowbike?? I know thats a tall demand but because of the price of theses kits I would really like to try one out in a field some where close just to get a feeling of them. I would be willing to pay in beer or food?

I think I could get a demo from the 2moto guys in boise but thats a haul for me to get up there.

So I appreciate any suggestions or ride offers. Looks like a fun sport. And hey if you get me into it I am always down to ride, no wife or kids means lots of free time for this guy.

Here is a pic of sledding at 1000 peaks a few weekends ago for ****s and gigs

All i can say is poney up the dough and buy a mountian horse Sleds are a blast but cost a small fortune to run. Snow bike will take you anywhere you want to go i was real skeptical and i have 2 friends response after riding was damn you. They are selling everything in the house that is not bolted down to buy a mountian horse. The 2 moto is ok rode one 5 years ago not even in the same ball park or county the mountan horse kit works well.

Priorities!

They could lose the anchor and rent, oh yeah sell the house too!:face-icon-small-win

I've seen Explorers for under $800, the 2000-2003 KTM 520 included for two grand more. The 2Motos can be found in similar situations starting around $1,800, if you find a matched set, just be happy with the bike and see the kit as the accessory it is.:face-icon-small-blu Example here vvv.

As bad as some folks claim the inferior kits to be, they are being a little spoiled seeing how the sport has progressed soo fast, some having the funds to keep pace with the evolution. If a toy looks worn out someone had fun riding it, most second hand for sale examples in this case, especially Mountain Horses have very little wear, maybe the owner's the one who's not very fun!

Something I have been bothered by since my first Hawk in 03', they and all the snow bike kits manufactured barely count to 3000 for the whole world. With the internet videos being seen by the ten thousands, hundreds of for the Hawks, and the buzzing chat rooms why are any for sale, where are their friends who need to own it when the "Have's" tire of their toy? The snowmobiler converts must have to pinch themselves on occasion, with the money their old crowd spends this is like taking a friend for free, so it's not the $5,000 or $800 cost! Sooooooo many don't realize what they are missing out on, will this grow on them when their the wiser?

$5,000 buys a lot, including a brand label if you prefer, or enough sled parts for you and a few friends home built recipe's. It's not the patented this, or the exclusive that, that makes the "snowmobile style" suspension work. :face-icon-small-win
This young feller, myself and maaaaaany more around the world are seeing the :light:.

Wow thanks for the great info! I really enjoyed that explored vid you posted. I feel I only hear people bashing these kits and those guys seem to be railing them!!!

I had no idea so many people built their own kits. Some real talent on this site. I would love to build by own but lack the tools and talent at the moment.

I am looking at trading my Triumph for an 07 WR450F so Maybe I will be able to find a used kit for it. It does have electric start. I did see a 2005 CRF450r with the explorer kit in Idaho for $3200 which is really a good price but I want to get a more easily streetable bike.

Yup thats a classic! Does Dennis drive a snowhawk?

I haven't been able to find many used kits for sale. They are pretty sparce. Huge fan of searchtempest and use it regularly for snowbike searches.

I do kinda like the explorer kit for the fact you dont need to remove the swingarm. I have read about the caliper mount issues though. I am still learning towards the 2moto. If you have any buddies selling any, let me know. I figure with more and more MH kits out there the prices on the other kits used should drop dramatically.

Man, those links brought back some memories......

I could hook you up with a Snowhawk ride up here(Logan area). Kinda like the snowbikes except more faster. I really don't need to know who needs to go any faster.....except maybe grandma... maybe she needs a cheetah on her back.

Someone did offer me a killer deal on an '11 kxf 450 today. May take that up.

You'll have to track me down on the other site. This site says I have 855 pm's with a total of 100 allowed.

Well I am going to check out a bike to buy next weekend. a 2006 WR450f 2moto , street legal with the full wheel setup. I am pretty excited! I know the TH is the cats pajamas but the price is far out of reach for me.

I am selling my street bike to get this so it will be my allll in one, streetbike, dirtbike, snowmobile.

Any one have any suggestions of things I should pay particular attention too when i look at it and ride it?

Well like I said once I have more money in the future I would think about it. But still used. I'm not a buy new type of guy. Got that from my pa.

As far as gear goes, I was planning on wearing the same stuff I wear snowmobiling, which happens to be the same stuff I wear snowboarding. Now before you say you can't shift in snowboard boots let me tell you that when I was in high school I used to ice ride my dirtbike and I always wore snowboard boots without an issue.

See that's the problem here.

Especially the snow bike section, most can't tell the whoooors, I mean auto sales executives from the riders. Good thing is the sport is soo addicting they won't be able to save themselves from the sauce their serving, win, winning.

He was just offering you a ride since he happens to have a whole flock of his own! That rider in the video, Google his name, the motorcycle world used to talk about him back in the day. He also was the one of the riders along with David Knight "another horse jockey" to help BMW develop that Husky looking bike. :face-icon-small-win

Sorry I'm kind of vague with my statements, only those listening really see it, all others skip to the pictures. Never was one to worry about what I'm wearing, can see the image conscience from a mile away. Europeans make quality gear though, Klim was once sewn in Idaho, sweated out next to the Fox line for all I know now!
