New World Record Elk In Utah

Hey Ice, I know old:D Phatty claims SLC but he is a Rexburg boy at heart.
That is a toad of a bull! Who ever the UTARD was that was dumb enough to let the cat out of the bag with that one should be shot. Im with PJ I wouldn't have mentionioned anything about that guy till it was packed out and the horns were at the taxadermy.

Oh I see, well I guess he can claim an elk or two as HIS ELK then. Now the real question...WHY would anyone want to move from Idaho to UTAH?? I got outta there soon as I was old enough to drive! Am I still considered a carrot snapper?? Lol

My kids wanted to go to Lagoon over the 4th (grrrrr) I thought I was in little Tijuana what gives?

noone really let it out of the of the bag! hundreds of people drive by him on the road over monroe pass everyday, it didn't help when a certain some posted pictures of it on a hunting forum, then every one really knew. I am doing no harm posting him on here as everyone else already knows about! To bad it takes 15 years to draw a tag in utah, cause a 380" is a common sight

I hear ya , lived in UT for 3 years and every morning woke up thinking, WTH am I doing here, Idaho has everything I want and more! Lagoon on the 4th? should have made them hit up the Fireworks in IF and called it good.

Mak. ever think that part of the reason 380 bulls are common is because it takes 15 years to draw? There are plenty of 380 bulls running around in ID you just have to know where to go to find em:face-icon-small-win

One can only give one answer to that question... $$$$ its all about the benjamins. I would be back in idaho if i could make any kind of a living up there. Wish i had 6000 acres to farm...

Seems to me there is a large herd of Elk in the tetons that like to come feed in some farmers fields in the fall... they have to cross two meadows of forest service land to get there... Used to produce some good sized 6 points.

Just wait spud brothers, pretty soon Bosie will have more peeps then SLC.:face-icon-small-win

Nice bull Mak keep us posted on what you hear!

I don't know if i will try to find it again, the unit is a zoo!

I'm leaving to scout my unit on thursday-friday, then i got to drop on down and check out a couple Deer on a CWMU down south for the rest of the week, so i might swing up on monroe on my way down south saturday morning and join the rest of the thrill seekers in trying find this bull! I'll keep you posted for sure Kev, i'll have the laptop and wireless card:D

and this one time at band camp...

Never really thanked you but THANKS Phatty, the ski's rock and the white looks sweet on my sled! thank you

UPDATE on tags, I talked to the landowner today and i still have 2 deer tags on a private ranch in northern utah, Borders Chalk Creek ranch on one side, and Ensign Ranch (both world class deer ranches) on the other. PM if interested, They are semi guided... you stay in one of my outfitters trailors, and i will take you out and show you the ranch and give you some heads up on where a 175 plus buck is.

Mak do you know Courtney Richins? He guide up lost creek and Echo side of Echo canyon, he is my cuz. He is in const. too...says he's glad he has his hunts this year.

I don't.. I have a tag this year in Echo Canyon too... My tag is on the Clarkes's Canyon CWMU which also includes some of Huff Creek, and borders the ensign. Ask him where he guides, i'm very familar with the ranches.

And also the bull is still alive, i've moved on though, i found a bachelor group of 7 bulls last saturday morning and 1 was BIG:D This things gonna die opening morning! wish it was as easy done as said!

Henry Moutains deer tag. I would give up sledding the rest of my life for that tag... haha but seriously, ya how many years are you out? as a non resident you are probably looking at 14 to 15 bonus points. Best deer unit in the world, honestly you wouldn't need much help to kill a 200" but i could tell you some spots that don't get as much pressure where the 220" bucks are. The average buck killed on that unit last year on the rifle according the report the state makes you do over the phone was 29 5/8" wide and 9 bucks were shoot on the unit last year over 220, including 2 over 240. How many other units have an average like that (these are just the ones i know for sure, there could be double that for all i know, these are confirmed kills)? The strip doesn't even come close to that. Your one luck Bi, you know it. I have zero points but since i drew my elk this year i will be hunting the henry's in about 13 years:mad:

BTW there was 3 Henry Rifle tags that ran through conservation raffles this year. They went for 87,000, 91,000, and the last guy at the Mule Deer Foundation of Price Chapter Banquet stole his for only 67,000. lol

And expect to see about 10 bucks a day over the 185" mark, in your preseason scouting, get above treeline where those bucks are bachelored up and it is a sight you will never forget

Not many points i am just praying to get lucky, i also put in for dessert bighorn. I can dream all i want and i will never draw those tags. I cant even draw a instate tag. If you ever decide to put in for mt let me know. I guide here for fun. I do know some good areas for mule deer and elk.

Thanks, i will. We have talked about it the last couple years but when it's came down to it we didn't. Thinking about hunting the montana side of the Beaver heads for elk.. Buddy said it was pretty decent. We heard there is a combo tag where we can hunt that, and then hunt out in the plains for muley's later in the year. My friend drew the tag a couple years and said the elk and deer hunting was both fairly good for the availability of the tag. how do i apply for it?

Well I could probably work with my outfitter buddy and put you in for a guaranteed liscense which is $1500 for a deer elk combo but if he didnt want to do that the other way is apply by the first of the year. Everyone i know usually gets it the first or second year. If you put in yourself its only $643. Those tags are deer and elk which are good in most areas in the whole state. If you were not in a hurry i would put in for the $643 tags.
