So here is the deal the wife is looking into getting a new vehicle. Current is a 2005 nissan maxima, she wants something 4wd and with some room as we have 2 kids. She is leaning towards a jeep grad Cherokee. Thought I would throw a thread up and see what you guys have/want/ don't want. I know there are some dealers on here as well any input would be great

thanks in advance

My wife has a toyota Rav4~ awd~ couldn't praise it enough~this is our second~ she was T boned in the first one by a 85 ford f-250 at 55mph~ the safty features built into the vehicle save 4 lives that day~~ even the state troopers said when the got there they figured multiple fatalities~ the side air bags deployed so fast my daughter didn't even get glass in her face and she was on the impact side at here door~~ again~ i couldn't recommend it enough~ if ya love your family~ protect them!! has been dependable and good mileage too~

Kinda depends on exactly what you plan to do with it really. Two kids in the back can be handled with just about any non-two seat car on the market. Plan to tow? Go off road? Need to park in a certain size garage? Or is it just a way to get up in the air a bit and have AWD? These will make a big difference in which way you sway for choice...

Thanks for the reply. To clarify not really towing but would like to have the option. Snow and bad roads up to the ski area for her and the kids reasoning for the awd or 4wd at least. Enough room so when the kids get bigger they are not smashed into the small back seat. She is leaning towards the jeep grand cherokee

Maybe the new jeeps are better, but everyone ive known that has or had cherokees, had constant problems...

Id look into a toyota 4runner, or similar. They build much safer vehicles, and they hold their value much better.

Just go check em all out tho i guess! Get what ya like ultimately.

I would second that issue with Jeeps and reliability. I won't sell mine (older gen) as I would feel badly for anyone else that got it. I've had issues with every single major component of it. For now it is garage filler. But really, if you are going to get the same gas mileage as a Tahoe in the Jeep, why not just get the Tahoe for about the same price, haul everything you'd ever want to, and know you have a reliable vehicle? That would be my choice vs looking at a Jeep. I should note as well that the new Ford Explorer Sport (Ecoboost) is pretty sweet as well...serioulsy quick lane changes are possible. Just not a huge fan of MyTouch...

My wife shopped hard for a suv, once she drove the CX-9 (Mazda) that was it. I wanted her to get an Acadia so I could tow with it, but I let her decide and I f'n love driving the Mazda and you can load 7 people in it.

We had 2 of the gen 1 grand cherokees & they were absolutely awesome!
We owned a '99 & was very happy.......to see it go.
Lots of piddly little sh!t always going wrong.
Wouldn't give my ballsack skin hair for another one.

The new ones look very nice.........who knows.
The wife has been running a Buick Rainier for years & it has been good.
Would not be afraid to tow a 2 place anywhere.
If I never planned on towing, I would like to replace it with the enclave.

Chev Tahoe's are very abudant

and provide a lot of bang for your buck. My bro's wife has one and loves it, my ex -wife had one and loved it, My mom has a Toyota Highlander and loves it.
My Wife has a new Camaro and loves it even when it is sitting in the garage all winter because it is worthless on Snow.

yeah I am on the fence about a jeep as well she really like the vw toureg, with that said I am not a fan of vw's or the dealer here. I would love it if I could talk her into a tahoe or a yukon because that is very familiar territory for me. I do like the look of the fords (edge and explorer) but have heard the gas mileage is not as good as it cracked up to be.

ya get a jeep or a Vw ya will pay double when it comes time to work on it and the ins rate are a little higher too on them~

Toyota highlander is mid size tows great
Buick Chevy acadia enclave with v8 !!
Tahoe awesome and any size Most V8's get better mileage than V6's !!!
eco boost is over rated

My wife loves her Toyota 4Runner. It will do everything she needs it do and meet your needs as well.

We have 3 kids and after two vans my wife wanted the same. Settled on the AWD GMC Acadia with the third row seat. It's been a good ride so far...
