From my perspective, having 3 Pro's (11,12 and 15) belonging to the family Me and 2 sons, we ride hard steep and deep, my 11 has stage 3 and clutching, 12 is stock with Super Q can and clutching, 15 is stock with Super Q can and clutching and the 12 and 15 will do all that the 11 with stage 3 will do until I really need just a little extra on really steep pull to get out of trouble, but with the younger guys on the later machines they can usually keep up and ride with the "old man" on their stock sleds. We have put the single most impressive performance enhancing mod on all of the sleds, that being, Iceage Pro Motion (worth looking at). My take is, Leave them stock and ride them like they are rentals!! They will be on warrantee when and if they have issues.
