New To Denver

basically even if you live in Denver you still have to drive a minimum of 4 hours to find anywhere worth riding to ride.

Moved up from the Aspen valley so I figured some amount of driving would be involved, but 4 hours puts me back there. Curious about Vail Pass but it looks fairly populated.

Vail pas is ful of jacktards, but has some good riding.

There's a little riding in clear creek county, then if you head over to grand there are a number of spots, some more obvious & crowded than others. Summit also has some great areas that are suprisingly not very crowded.

from the edge of golden, there are around 10 areas that I can think of in just over an hour or so (depending on the level of douchbaggery of your fellow denverites of course)

Enjoy the commute, saturday morning & sunday evenings are fun:rolleyes:!

btw dizz, just bought a new place in Dumont, so that's where paradise is now!!

I dunno, I lived in Brighton for awhile ... Rabbit Ears was a 4 hour drive from there, the Snowies were a 4 hour drive from there ..

Everyone on here says Winter Park completley sucks to ride

We can make it to RE in 4 hours easily from Monument, now getting back home is a completely different story. That is partly why we ride down south.

Ahhh DenverR1:confused:

You must be talking about Moffat Tunnel, right? Isn't Jones pretty Avy dangerous?

What about doo dealers in the area. Which ones to avoid. I usually have about as much trust in dealers as elected officials......

I'd ditto that, Felkers is the only Doo dealer around here that you don't hear a lot of negative about or see mistakes filter into the other shops. They've got some decent setups as well as mods go.

doggy, grand county sucks?... If you hang with the white helmet brigade, sure, but there's a lot of terrain that's nowhere near where the douchies ride.

We make that drive every weekend and it only takes that long on realy bad roads.

On decent roads I can be to Laramie in about two hours, fill everything up and be at the parking lot 30-40 minutes after that. Figure three hours tops.

We usualy take:
I-25 North
Owl Canyon cut-off west to 287
287 North to Laramie
Go west until on 130 and/or 11 to Albany/Greenrock

Everyone seems to rip on vial pass. My friends and i grew up in Summit county and are very familiar with Vail Pass both in winter and summer.
I have been riding there consistently for about 5 years and my roommate for 10. We up usually pretty late get out around 11:00 and still can ride untouched all day. (like anywhere you have to know were to go) Vail Pass seems to get good snow fall and has quite a bit of terrain everything from rivers, climbs, cornis, meadows and all usually untouched if your not scared to get off the trail. It is mind boggling that We rarely see anyone because the parking lot is always full. Vail pass is a super mellow drive and you can get there form Denver in under two hours. Now if you plan on leaving at 8:oo on sat morning it would take you all day to get up there due to skier traffic. We usually just spend the night before up there since it is an option for us. Another nice thing about vail is that the main trails are always maintained and in nice condition. There is no riding bumps for hours getting back home at the end of your ride.

The bad side is that it is always packed and hard to park if you get there late. The rangers that work there are usually a pain to deal with. Had more bad experience then good. You have to pay $7 a day or buy a year pass for like $40. Just make sure you have registration and pay for day pass and you would have a problem with ranger (there not really rangers they are dudes that pretty much volunteer to give out tickets). It is kind of a circus with all the tours going out but you can aviod all of them when your out there.

Filter, with all due respect you have some facts (and opinions ;) ) wrong...

It is $6 a day and $40 for a year pass. You will never make it to VP in 2 hours unless you leave at 5:30am from West Denver. People rip on VP because parking is a mess, the plows never hit it before all the crowd is there. Then some slednecks (as they call themselves) will spend the next hour or two dragging up and down the parking road. There is a lot of snowmobile traffic and you WILL see a forest ranger and likely a Eagle County Sheriff deputy on sleds checking registrations (nothing wrong with that).

I agree that there is some awesome terrain and like you said...if you know where to go you can come back during the next week and find untracked snow.

I always try to get people to join a club. There are several reasons that I won't get into, but for your sake, it will help you find riding partners and new terrain. There is the Mile High Club but I invite you to join our club too. See our club link in my signature. Awesome riding in all the spots people are recommending. Don't go out alone.
