New to Cat's got 09 M8 to be Twisted a.s.a.p. have some questions ?

I just got my first Cat and will be putting on a twisted turbo in the next month or so. I am just breaking it in stock incase any warranty issues pop up.

I have around 120Km on it and have noticed a few things.

Oil has spewed all over the engine compartment.

I found 1 exhaust spring and 1 bolt in my belly pan below my clutch's.... if they want to include extra parts.... the exhaust side would be preferred...

87 octane from Cheveron does not work as well as Esso 87. Usually cheveron worked awsome in my fuel injected 05 900.... Oil pump seems to be sticky and with the break in oil Rpm's were all over the place... even on the second ride till I changed fuel....

The seat is not a seat but more like a couch and weighs a rediculous amount... other than the hood also being really heavy the rest of the design is quite nice...

I plan on a new seat and a headlight delete, anti stab, twisted turbo, and possible diamond drive bearing upgrades.

I also found the deflection to be a bit much and the belt riding a bit low int he secondary so I shimmed it up one size... squeels once in a while but not often....

I'm looking for recomendations from you Cat guy's with experience.... What works and what I shouldn't waste my money on?

I'm coming off of an 05 900 RMK and an 09 XP800 so I've speant alot of time fixing little things along the way and from what I've seen so far the Cat is not much different in regards to needing some TLC to make it shine...

What have you guys been doing?

Welcome to the cat world bro! Sounds like you got it figured out mostly now. Stock M seat is low, and heavy, and thats before it absorbs a whole bunch of moisture. Boss or '10 seat are good options, mine stays nice and light even after a damp day. My exhaust puked oil all over as well, little bit of care with copper rtv, making sure the springs are in good shape, and getting the oil pump to move a bit more free, also helps this problem. Some guys have gotten away with lubing the oilpump, some tighten the spring up with a little more tension.

Other then those things, you have the crappy secondary clutch rollers, may as well do them before you get too far, shift assist seems to make a nice little difference, and go easy on that adjustable post, they arent all that tough.

Also, dont stress too much about the rpm's being all over the place yet, noticed with a couple of our m8's that once they loosen up a bit, they will pull more rpm, and seem to act more like they are supposed to. Cant wait to see it with some boost, hopefully it doesn't convince me to do it...

One more thing, if you get some belt squeel from that thing once it gets a bit warm, thats right on par. These things work better, and the belt likes you alot better if you keep the deflection right in check at all times. If it creeps while idling with the track off the ground, thats a good sign. You probably have a fair amount of knowledge on diamond drive clutching, since you rocked it in your 900 setup.
Go easy buddy,

If you want to go with a twisted turbo call mainjet in nelson 7500 installed for pump gas extreme kit or Canadian power machines pretty much the same price. I rode 2010 hcr with twisted extreme kit and all i can say is hold on!!
I reccomend upgrading motor mounts if u get a turbo. Get 2010 seat do some clutch work, lots of venting sprecially side panels.

Good choice to switch to a cat pulled lots of Ski-doos out this year

Thanx for the advice and words of confidence. Last ride out Boo was starting to pull 8000 rpm so she's loosened up some and is pulling some fine lines.... went up to the Valhalla's up Hoder and pulled some sick lines... She sure hug's the steep sidehill nice....

Diamond Drive in the 09 seems to have alot more slack than the 05/06 box's I have experience with....

They had an slp pipe on the sled when I went to buy it and looked at me funny when I said I wanted it all stock.... LOL so I guess when they changed the pipe and can back and forth it lost any silicone it might of had.... I was planning on some Ultra Copper to try and seal... Spent last night cleaning it to isolate exactly where it's splooging from.... It appears to be the bottom of the dougnut at the Y pipe....

Seat is on the hook next just waiting to hear back from free agent.

The twisted Kit comes with new rollers and venting and is put together well and they do haul!!! You will want one.... Best thing about Shains kit is he rides and tunes here locally so we get great support.

Can't wait to get it all dialed in...... Will have to get out for a chew with you soon Bud!!! Always fun to ride with guys like yourself that are agressive and fun to ride with.

It was just recommended to me to go with the diamond Lite drive.... not sure how much but it came from a good source.... noticing the difference in engagement noise makes me believe this is a good upgrade for big power.

See you on top:face-icon-small-hap

Braap.... Braap...

Hey

Spoon and Main Jet are the guys to do it locally for sure..... I'm going to get my hands dirty and do it with Frosty so I know exactly where and what everything does.... I like to get in on the builds and not just have something that was put together so when I need to trouble shoot I have a clue what's going on.....

Who's motor mounts did you go with? I know Shain throws them in on the 1000 kit's.... I rode his 2010 M1000 at 11 pounds and it was off the hook....

Where about's do you ride? I have another budy with a Twisted 8 and will be looking for a few more TM8's or Tm1's to ride with so the stockers don't shrivle up so much and still have fun.... j.k... not really...:face-icon-small-sho

Foot Wells?

Are there any larger footwell options or should I just get smaller boots?

Currently have Klim Boots with antishock rubber on them and they are a bit bulbous..... I love doing big carves downhill and the XP has nice big pockets which help....

Also I miss the turning radius of the Doo!!! Are there any aftermarket companies that are worth using that increase turning radius of the Cat or do they just push and dive cause of the geometry?

Sorry for being a post #$%^

The beginning of this winter I noticed the local Chevron now has a "may contain up to 10% ethanol" sticker on it's pumps for 87 octane. This might be the cause?

I run nothing but esso 87 in mine.

Thanx for the confirmation on that one.... I have been told and read that the ethanol and oxygenated fuels are not good but I've had so much good luck with the Chevron the town pump.. ding ding ... That honestly I've been tempted to try it again.... but after the esso treating me well and confirmation by another Kewl Cat I'll shy away from Chevron.

Thanx

J.

LOL ... welcome to the Cat side ;)

I've got about 400 miles on my M8 right now, and needless to say I haven't been motivated to even put the 2 hours worth of work it'd take to get my 900 functional again in .... there just hasn't been any reason for me to :)

Dog it's been along time how have you been? Still have the 9 I assume ?

Man tell me about it.... The 9 was my schooling..... ShamfrickityWoW!!!!! :face-icon-small-sho

Good to see another 9 converted to the Cat.... They sure have some nice touch's but dropped the ball on a few things like the 09 seat and heavy hood.... I miss the torque of the 9 and the turning radius of the XP but I can live without those once the turbo is finally on my M8!!

Just talked with Freeagent and have a sweet new seat on order, also a headlight delete kit to lighten the hood and a bunch of other groovy things!!!

I hear you about the 9.... Poor old girl is worth more dead than alive... Parting her out one piece at a time to help offset my addiction to sledding and my Turbo Fever.....

Boo should be breathing fire in a month or so.... Just a few loose ends to tie up and hopefully a few good recomendations and this will be the funnest sled I've ever rode because of the potential power and sidehilling!!!!

Yeah dude, there is seriously more potential in the M sleds *** end than there is in the whole 900 RMK chassis ..... I haven't even done anything to mine yet other than skis, a slight clutching change, and an AMP riser .... I don't think I'm even gonna do anything to it other than perhaps at the very most an air intake and an SLP can .... it works quite well for me %80 of the time ... the other %20 I guess i'll just have to deal with not having quite enough power :face-icon-small-dis .... but, let's face it, I've already got more riding in THIS MONTH than I did all last winter f*cking around with that 900.
