New spring on Life

2005 166 --- 225 Carl's front spring Ryde FX's all the way around.

As per previous threads I did get my .405's ( two up units) springs from Babbits installed.

At first I didn't see that they did much, and I had them cranked up. After about a mile down the trail it was tight to the top. let it down a knotch. Another mile or so it was to the top again.

They must need some warm up time ( bizzare ) .

I now have them on the lowest setting and with a full day of pretty hard riding it sits about 1'' from tight to the top at rest. They give the sled a much nicer feel, and if they get a little loose I can crank them up.

I would recommend the .405, I weight about 210.

This sled is great, with the 166 it went anywhere, everyone else was stuck all day. I am impressed.

Just gotta love these tractors don't ya:beer;:D:D:D I can't believe they stopped making them:eek::eek::confused:

What????????? .405??? Man......... I thought it was the .375/47 that was the ticket?, so that's what I ordered!!!!

For what they cost, if that isn't what I'm after I sure hope they'll exchange them.

The .375 are inbetween the stock and 405s so if your a lighter guy the .375 will be better for you. I weigh 175 with gear and am going to go with the .375 when I get the money.

i spoke with Curt at FTX about these..

i am 250 naked (and delicous :D) and with gear, i am around 270ish..curt stated that he is also around 300 max with gear...and he said for me to run the 375/47...

so thats what i am getting...cant go wrong with curt...but the .405 are good as well...read this thread more if you have ??s..

http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165462

but if your happy with the .405...congrats..and ride on brother!!

Whew..... That makes me feel better, just didn't want to get them to find I still have a 6" sag.

I'm 205 w/ gear on.
I talked to Curt as well, I put on the .359/47. It raised me up right where I'm supposed to be. It's on the low tog too!! It rides like a Cadillac on the whoops now. I love it. I also did his small rail/scissor mod, I'm sure that combined with the new spring is what got me the better ride.

And...........
i am 250 naked (and delicous :D)

That is a very disturbing mental picture. I think I am scarred for life.........Totally blind now and yes, scarred for life.

In order to fully utilize the scissor, Curt suggests that you straighten the scissor a bit so it can achieve its full travel. Look on your sled where the scissor is bolted to the rail, measure 5/8" back and drill holes on each side. Move the scissor mounting point to there, when you do you will notice that it is more perpendicular with the rail AND its closer to its stops when its starting its travel.
I'm no suspension expert, I just did what he suggested. Contact Curt at FasTrax for the full run down. :)

Before - with .359/90* torsion spring on high tog

After - with .359/47* spring on low tog. Note the difference in the scissor/rail angle. I drilled 2 holes, each one 5/8" behind the first, for future adjustment if needed

The Hole Relocation Works

Just be sure you don't get it to far back or it will just try and lay foward before. it sizzors. this is why the Factory off sets them a little to the front.

Are the '09 and newer rails still capable of being drilled for the rear scissor relocate? It appears with the new rail design there is a bit less material due to a factory lightening hole.

you bet, theres room on the 09-up style RAW rails, i just had a set for a project i was gonna do and i looked at the rear scissor mod then and looked just fine.

Rollers not slides

Anyone run the Rollers on the Rails, Instead of the stock Friction ones.

Seems like they would let the springs work easier, but are they work the money ?

hey lee,

i thought about this a while back as well...also looked into the white hyfax style guides on the IQRs...

the IQR ones were good, just awkward looking cause they were big/bulky

the rollers i think will be a great idea...how much are they selling them for, and what sled are the originally off?

seems like a good idea to me if...
