Starting to keep my eyes open for a new sled or a used one this spring.
I run an old wedge with a BB triple, but it is a bit finicky from day to day and it does not handle as well as the new sleds. I am looking for a sweet handling sled that does not tire me as much but still has the brute hp as my triple.
1. I can go with an M1000 which I would probably keep close to stock, maybe can, milled head but still pump gas, pipes etc. But I hear they can be a bit nose heavy and that might defeat the purpose of my goal of nice handling sled.
2. I can go with an M8 or D8 and I would probably turbo those since it seems like the pump gas turbos are working with minimal headache now. I am leaning towards the D8 because I hear they are slightly easier to turbo with the 4 injectors and I have a good raport with the polaris dealer and I am used to polarises...but I don't have a polaris tatoo or anything like that. I hear both handle well and they seem to be reliable. I am leaning towards the BD turbo. I like the rebuildable Garrett and it seems like some good peeps are peddling them. It seems like the my friends that know how to wrench ride Cats so there is some cross pollination on ideas and set up there.
3. I can go with the XP, but I hear most don't like the handling as well and they don't turbo as easily. Stock they are a nice running machine and seem to be quite the mountain goat. I don't like the reliability rumors or durability rumors. It seems like people are having trouble with the clutching. It also seems like they don't mod easy. In for a penny in for a pound sort of thing. I don't think my friends that run the skidoo are the wrenching type so I would be on my own.
4. I have kinda eliminated yamaha even tho they are clearly nice sleds and make goobs of power when the turbo'd...but I already have a heavy sled with gobbs of power. I am looking for gobbs of power and less tired.
Honest well informed opinions are appreciated. Sophomoric hyperbole will be summarily dismissed as just that.
thanx!
