New sled, nitro MTX, or 800 shift 144?

Hey guys, I'm going to be buying a new sled not this winter, but at the beginning of the 09 winter. I'm not sure what I want yet, I have it narrowed down to two sleds, but now I don't know. I live in northern alberta, ride mostly flat powder, head to the mountians about 2 times a year, so I don't need a super long track, but it can get's deep here (chest deep) so I want a least 144. The sled I'll end up buying needs to be very easy to throw around, like the IQ is. Since these two sleds are mountain sleds I thought I would post here. Wondering what your opinion is of each?

800 shift 144

My riding buddies have 07 700 dragon 155, and an 08 D8 155, and I love em, the motors rule, the 800 even more so, chassie is unbeatable, IMO an unbeatable ride. Maybe not the highest mark, but probably the funnest. That's the closest I have come to riding the 800 shift, but It's not that diffurent, so I have a pretty good idea what I would getting.

Nitro MTX, never ridden one, only sat on it, feels nice when your just sitting on it, but what interests me the most is the 4 stroke, my dad has an 07 attak, and I like the four stroke reliability, not haveing to worry about your motor all the time is what gets me the most about the sled. But I have have heard it's a LOT like a rev, I hate revs with a passion, I have spent quite a bit of time on revs, xp's included, and just hate them, they feel like thier cemented to the ground when your trying to carve, and yes I know how to carve, I just don't like them, anyway, how rev like is the nitro exacly?

Both sleds would be ridden stock for a year or two, then the polaris would most likey get an 840 or 860, and the nitro a pump gas turbo, I don't want to but a sled because it has the most power avalible with a few bolt ons, but what ever sled I get with will come out with more HP than stock. I know the polaris would be a cheaper way to go, but that won't steer me away from the nitro. Let me know what your opinions are on this.

Thanks.:beer;

I think you should buy mine!!

You go to the mountains and you want a bigger sled with a longer track. I have the sled for you except for the fact you might be looking for something newer. The second picture I attached you can find on www.snoriderwest.com web page under destination chetwynd. My 800 RMK has the electronic reverse, 2" handle bar risers, stinger, chrome blue wind shield, belly pan protector, air prefilter socks, boost bottle, windshield bag, cover. It has 2900 k's and works great. If your not interested, then I would like to give you advice as to which sled I would go for. I think it depends what riding style you have. If you like boondocking and carving through trees and jumping I would rather go for the shift. If you like dragging motor that lasts a long time and the ability to add a lot of horses to outclimb many other sleds then I would go for the yammy. Me personally Ive order a Rev xp 800. I know you don't like them, but after being in the mountains and watching endless stock ski-doos blowing the doors off everything else it kind of made up my mind. I talked to your dad about my sled today. You'll have to ask him where I live.

lots of discussions on this...do some searches on here and will see loads of opinions...

cant beat 4stroker for reliabiity...but to get weight down will cost you some money...and then to get power up will cost you more money...but at the end you will ahve a BULLET proof reliable sled around 490 lbs. (dry) and 200+ Horse Power...fun factor is UNMATCHED!!!!

but the other route is cheaper with less mods...but you will get less miles for the life of the sled, and if you mod it, you will end up tinkering more...

they are both great sleds...you will enjoy either...

for me, I chose the Nytro...and LOVE it!!!!

You'll have to spill the beans and tell me who you are, this is pretty cool, I didn't think I would find anybody body from La Crete on snowwest. I know I have seen your sled on snoriderwest before. But yeah, it's a bit older than what I'm going for. But I do know a guy who would really want it if your interested in selling. Man I should know who you are. But yeah, I do a bit of everything, I jump quite a bit, (over our road this year) I'm really into boondocking around here, as it's pretty much all a guy can do here, but when I go to the mountains I also love to high mark, so I need a sled that will do it all, with reliability. One of my other friends has an 08 800 XP everest, it's an awesome wheely sled if that's all you want to do, but even with the swaybar removed it feels, heavy almost, not like a 460lbs sled. All my riding buddys say the same thing about it, it just doesn't want to roll over onto it's side. Have you ridden one? Hows it feel to you?

EDIT, Talked to my dad over lunch, Fred Wiebe, ok. I knew that sled looked familiar.

Yeah I know what you mean. It's hard t decide, I still have this summer and winter to think on it, but I have been thinking about it since these two sleds came out, and still don't know what I want any more than I did then. But I think I'm starting to lean toward the nitro. It's looks like a very manuverable chassie in all the vids I have seen of it.

i have riden a nytro, not a mountain one but the 121", and i will say this, its damn heavy in the front, with the stock skis in east coast deep the thing does not float, it felt like i was scrapping the ground, it finally nose dive when my buddy was riding and it was stuck pretty good. haveing said that, it is comfortable, large running boards, power is nice, small gas tank sux. i'm a doo guy but if i were to go away from doo i would ride a poo.

I have been on the xp. Just made a loop with it. I know what you mean about it seeming heavy. I think it is mostly that it is so stable side to side, and also we don't have the deep fresh snow you need for it. I have ridden my brothers 800 rev chassis and it's kind of the same thing. You can carve but it freaks me out cause your doing fine one minute and the next the sled is throwing you over the other side. It does work in the deep powder though. I'm just looking forward to highmarking anybody i want in the mountains, and I think it will boondock just fine after I'm done setting it up and all the fresh powder I'll be riding in. I am planning on adding a DJ clutch kit with all the reviews I have seen on the dootalk forums. Cant wait!!! I do want to sell my sled though and if your friend would buy it now I would give a bit better of a deal then I would in fall.

Ok, yeah I have not ridden the XP in anything over 3 feet of powder, but I did rent an 07 800 rev 151 last winter, and took it into kakwa, we had chest deep powder that trip, it did alright, but then I climbed on an 06 700 rmk, then an 07 700 dragon, heavenly compared to the rev, I didn't want to get off. But the guys wanted their sleds back, so I had to. But yeah, I think once you get used to it, it'll feel a lot better. Yeah I'll talk to him, he's not sure if he want's to buy a sled now, or a bike next summer because of gas prices. But I keep telling him if he doesn't buy a sled, then we'er all gonna be sledding, and he'll be stuck at home. I'll ask him if he'd be interested now. He want's an 02, and that's what your's is, so...... maybe.

i rode the Nytro MTX and absolutely hated it
it felt nothing like my REV....at all......
ergonomics were all wrong, terrible.....
yes it has a long lasting engine, blah blah blah

im not here to brand bash just give u an opinion
u want an all around sled...the REV (whatever year) 144
i really dont care about the highmark and also like to freeride, jump etc
and this sled fits like a glove to me
but i will be honest
i came off an M8...it took about 4 rides to get used to the REV..its very different

now....i wouldnt have it any other way

so, being you dont like the REV i wont push it
i would go w the Poo assault
if i bought new, it would be a 146 XP or the neww 800 assault

my .02

Purchase your XP and see if it will highmark anyone that really rides the mountains.

The best thing to do is find some guys that have the sleds you want and ride them, taking turns on each sled. Pay for the guys gas and meals and you can have your own demo ride for a day.

I have a nytro MTX, ridden 05 rev 800's, rt1000's, and an xp800, and a dragon 800. For me, you won't ever see me owning another two stroke again. It is not that they are better, just that the MTX fits me and my style better. I like the sound, the pull of the motor, and the ergonomics of the MTX better than the other machines.

The MTX has the issue of crappy suspension (fixed on the 09's) and the complete lack of storage... That is the biggest pain. The MTX will cost you more than the others, but that is life.

Ride as many different sleds as possible to get a feeling for what you want. Curious though why you compared the MTX vs. the shift 144? There is quite a large price difference, and if you are thinking 144's, there is the XTX from Yamaha that has much better shocks and suspension.

To each there own.

Thanks for the opinions guys, I guess it's to each their own. My dad knows a guy who has an 08 nitro mtx, we'll have to hook up with him for a ride this winter, I'm sure he would let me take it for a spin. Once I have ridden it I'll know what I like better. As for why the MTX or shift 144, not the XTX, the main reason would be the ski stance, I want a narrow stance, I love boondocking and climing though the trees, so I need the maneuverability of an narrow stance, and I don't mind the long track of the mtx, 153 works fine around here, but isn't needed, and that's why I would pick the 144 polaris, if I were to buy a polaris. I do quite a bit a jumping, so the assault is also going to be an option. Another thing I'm worried about is I'm scared that the nitro will be under powered, But I guess I'll have to ride it first, and if it is underpowered, I just might have to save up for a turbo.

the four strokes kick but in order for them to rock you got to spend 4 gs on a turbo thats the only way to go if you get the nytro i met up with this one man in the mountains and thats apperantly the only way to go if you get the fourstrokes cause stock the power to weight ratio is not even close to the 2 strokers untill that turbo then it will blow the doors offf any thing2 stroke
