I don't want to be disrespectful to someone that I don't know...but with all due respect sir, I don't think anyone is "whining".
I for one am glad he started this thread as I thought maybe mine was the only one and how strange it was for the gas gauge to stop working...but now BECAUSE OF THIS THREAD I know that I am not alone

nope, posted here to see if this was a common problem.
and my theory was right, it is.
being a mechanical engineer, my ano retentive tendancies sometimes show. This would be one of them.
