new sled = broken gas gauge anyone else?

new sled last year as of march and my gas gauge is already broken!

Everything is physically ok but the float no longer floats. I did store it with no gas inside the tank. maybe the float dried out?

talked with one of the local dealers and he said they are seeing this happen on their rentals.

is there an aftermarket gauge. I don't want to put the stock gas gauge in again if it will do the same thing down the road again.

thanks

P.S. - the stock gas gauge is $30.00!!!

Exact same thing happened to me with my '12 after only 1 week. I got the factory replacement under warranty and it's been fine ever since. Might as well take advantage of the warranty if you still can.

I just brought the gauge in and exchanged it for a new one. I'd just call your dealer and explain the situation to them. I can't imagine they'd give you any trouble over something small like that.

i have a new guage coming for my 13

worked fine for a few weeks...and is now stuck on RES....even when I top it off

I can see why this would happen with the new "state of art" gas gauge.... haha! Seriously this is happening? how is that possible? They have been using this same gauge style with the manual float since like 1975!! Crazy.

Yes! My 11 it would stick half way up. Warranty replacement worked great. My 13 stays at the bottom, just picked up a warranty replacement, seems to work:face-icon-small-coo

They hang up. Just takes some minor bending to fix it.

That's what I thought too, so I filled her up to the top and held the float in the full position as I put the cap on. When I let go of the float, it sunk like a brick to the bottom. No binding at all. For whatever reason the float just lost its float. :face-icon-small-con

Amazing that something so simple can be a problem.

yep thats what mine did too.

held the float up and dropped like a rock to the bottom, polaris must have gone el cheapo with the gas gauge manufacturer.

So are the 13's doing this also? If so, that means polaris doesn't realize this is an issue or are ignoring that their gas gauges suck!

really?

Wow all this over a gas gauge?

The gauges are made by Kelch.

The same company that has been making them since I had my 1973 Cat 303 Wankle Panther.

I wonder if the crap ethanol gas that we have to feed these things is wreaking havoc on the floats like it is on the remainder of the fuel system.

I had a gauge stop floating as well and no ethanol here.

Another one here that had a 2013 not work right from the very first tank of fuel...so I seriously doubt the ethanol gas is an issue...

For whatever reason, the float just stopped floating...would sometimes but wouldn't others...

My dealer sent me a new one free of charge:)

Weird deal though for sure...

Weird that something so obvious as Cat's genius idea of the large filler mouth on the M sleds got overlooked by everyone including Cat on their new models.
Both gas guages on my M sleds self destructed. No big deal, just reached in the tank and fished them out.
No guage? no problem. Just open the big ole cap and look down into the tank.
Never had a float guage worth a shat in 25years of running power toys and lawn mowers, guess some things don't change.

My gauges currently work (had one replaced under warranty) but I never look at them-- I just go off the trip meter.

Big pow day breaking trail, 57 miles and she's empty.

"all this over a gas gauge"

when I pay close to 10k for a sled I expect things to work, especially a gas gauge.

If your brand new trucks gas gauge stopped working, would that not be a big deal too?
