Torn between a used sled, and a new sled.
NEW: 10,700 clams is a lot for a new sled. 430 pounds, 151 horses. And, most importantly, a 2 year warranty. Helps you sleep at night, but then there's insurance.
USED: So maybe pick up a used sled, say a 06 with a 1000 miles on the engine. Seems everyone wants $6500 for them. I had a bad experience, bought a used sled once, 1000 miles on the engine. Something happened, probably my fault air box popped off carbs, but the engine burned down. $2300 for a new short block and buddy to install it. (Good price I might add) Everyone told me I did OK to get 2500 miles out of it before it died.
So, you buy a used sled for $6500, it's 70 pounds heavier than a new sled, no warranty, and ski-doo won't answer the phone if it burns down. And, of course, it's sold as is. So, $3000 2 to 3 years from now to replace the engine, a couple grand in lightweight parts, to bring it somewhere close to a new sled, and holy cow, you could have bought a new sled. And, lived happy for two years. Well, except ski-doo's have to go to the shop every month for things they forgot to install correctly in the first place.
Is my logic messed up, or do you guys see it my way? No wonder people buy new. Is it just me, or are used sleds a little over priced for what you get.
And, what's with people selling used 08, 07, for more than what you can buy them at the dealer for. I saw Micheal's had skidoo 08's in the crate for $8499 a few months back, people are asking $8800 a used 08 with a 1000 miles and only one year of warranty left.
