new gun 4 me

thanck for the input folks . the thing is im looking for a 1911 cuz thats what i want .the gun buy the bed is a short 12 ga. can get much better for home def. in my eyes.and for old trusty a 357 that im down right deadly with.so the 1911 for fun but
still want the nicest one i can afford.

In that case :D you can't usually go wrong with a Kimber. They have better fit and finish than most. I was also pretty impressed with the Sig Sauer 1911.

Bought my wife a sub compact xd in .40. For the money I thought it was a good choice. Has nice fit and finish. It also has a nice feel to it. I have xtra large hands and my wife's are much smaller and it has a nice feel for both. Recoil was about what I expected it to be and it shoots well. My personal choice has always been a Sig in anything bigger than 9mm. If its a 9mm there is nothing like my p7m8. I just love that gun.

Went to an IDPA intro and shoot last night. Most people (27 shooters) shot Glocks and there were a few 1911's or knock offs and a sig or two. Interesting thing is that the simplicity of the Glock for this competition seemed to cause less delay. Some of the other weapons with hammers had a more difficult time with first shot accuracy and there were a few hang ups with external safety's. Other than that everyone seemed to shoot well and there were no weapon failures. To me it doesn't matter what you shoot as long as you know the weapon well enough to be safe, accurate, and comfortable.

1911freak-had any experience with the para super hawgs? Really thinkin about getting one of these. I like my kimbers, but come on, long slide and hi-cap? cc- ya I like my G29. 10mm forever!!

I have not done much with the Para double stacks. I think I worked on one a long time ago and I know of a couple guys who shoot USPSA here in Utah with them. They work fine and I don't remember anything being wrong with them other than that blocky front on the grip. I prefer the STI double stacks, nice rounded grip and only 3/16" wider than a single stack.

I have a Para P-16 40 limited in 40 S&W with the double stack clip and love it! The standard length clips, flush bottoms, hold 16 while the little bit longer ones hold 18. I've shot that pistol for 4 years and only had it jam twice, and that was really bad ammo! If there's one thing I notice about them is just the fit and finish, very tight, smooth action, awesome trigger, and the limited's come with the better sights.

I run a Kimber Custom TLE RL stainless awesome!!! Can't go wrong with it. I have used multiple types of handguns in every climate possible. A Glock is made for someone who isn't a gun guy. Yeah they hold up in climates. But so doesn't a 1911 keep it clean.

I'm more of a gun guy than you will ever be. Most "gun guys" come to realize that reliability is paramount and that extra $ does not always mean it's better.
Your right, 1911's are reliable if you find the ammo they like and if you maintain (clean) them. As temperature and conditons become more extreme your level of maintanance will increase and I can guarantee that you will never reach the reliability level of a Glock. Pure and simple fact.

Still love 1911's. All this talk is getting me thinking, maybe I need a new toy.

haven't shot either of those but i cant wait to shoot my new SS wth aluminum reciever Kimber Pro Carry this spring. Colt Compact has been terrific and still will be my hiking/camping firearm of choice. Just have to find a nice laser sight now for the Pro Carry.

Kimber is the best. Good luck with yours!!!!

"A Glock is made for someone who isn't a gun guy." WTH. Where on earth do you get your information. Do a little search and see how much of Gun Guy gun a Glock is. Special forces and ops, law enforcement, home protection, USPSA, IDPA, and the list just goes on and on of groups and individuals that use this weapon in every environment possible. It might not be a Mercedes but sure the he!! is a proven to do the job right and right now.

I don't think it is necessary to state your opinion that if someone chooses this brand that they are not a gun person. That is disrepectful toward people who are in fact authorities on this subject and make their living in this industry.
