New Gas/Tunnel Rack for the '09 Short Seat and '10 M's

I just picked up a new VMI (Vortech Manufacturing Inc.) rack and its the best I've seen, so I thought I'd give them a plug on here.

The 162 is the full length of the kick up, 20" (153 coming soon). Its CNC cut from billet, comes with four cross rods and all hardware. You can easily carry a can of any size, a tunnel bag and something else if you wish.

VMI's website is: www.vortechmfg.com , which shows thier products, however, the new racks designed for the AC short seats are not listed or displayed yet (the new one's are just an elongated version of the pieces shown, cut for where the foot rail attaches to the tunnel). The new pieces will be displayed on thier website soon.

Chech them out on the above website or call (406) 257-7828...Bob or Todd.

here is what i have in the works.
i just came off a tm7 153 that used a lot of fuel.and for the trips back in the Pemberton glacier, i had vortech build me a rack that i could carry (2) holz 2.5 gal cans and my skins tunnel bag.or for those B.C. trips it could hold (4) of the holz 2.5 gal cans.keep in mind, i am not recommending anyone throw 10 gal of extra fuel on the back of their sled, but i was able to make it work.

well i just bought an 09 m8sp and when i transferred my boss seat, i realized i wasn't going to be able to pack as much w/o making some changes.so i went to the new 2010 cat short seat, and now the rack from my m7 now fits.i don't know if it necessarily looks good on this one, but i will be able to pack a few things around if necessary.here are some photos to give perspective...

(the shocks are out of the sled, that's why its sitting like it is)

VMI Tunnel Racks

Here is what we came up with for the 2010 sleds. If you have a 2009 sled and have replaced the seat with one of the new short seats these will work on your sled also. The 153 rack comes with 3 crossbars and sells for $110 plus shipping. The 162 rack comes with 4 crossbars and sells for $120 plus shipping. You can see them on our web page at www.vortechmfg.com or call and talk to us at 406-257-7828.
Thanks Bob

Thats alot of weight on the tunnel with 4 cans of fuel! does look good though. Whatch them woops headin up the trail

when i said i wasn't sure about the look of the rack on this sled, i am now convinced its because of the short rear bumper.with thick gloves, it would be a pretty tight fit to get your fingers around the bumper. i think i am going to get a 162 rear bumper and trim down to where it sticks out another 3-4" from the flap.i think that would clean up the look of the back of the sled.

vmi racks

The new 2010 racks are here. The 153 rack is 23 1/2 inches long and comes with 3 crossbars. The 162 is 27 1/2 inches long and comes with 4 crossbars. The racks go from the the seam on the tunnel and are cut to go around the taillight in the back. They will strengthen the back of the tunnel and are supplied with all the stainless hardware to mount and assemble. Give us a call at 406-257-7828 or e-mail at vmi@centurytel.net

It is a lot of weight but I had the same rack on my RMK and I ALWAYS carried 2ea of the 2.5 gallon cans. Never had any issues. For longer rides up the Yentna River ($10/gallon gas along the river) I often carry 10 gallons on the back rack and never had an issue with that either. The Vortech racks are made out of stout aluminum angle and they actually add alot of strength to your tunnel.

Last spring my buddy endo'd his 163 Dragon (at about 45mph) and landed vertically on the back of the tunnel. Sheet metal got bent up and the Vortech rack bent slightly, but without the rack I have no doubt that the back of his tunnel would have been at 90 degrees to the rest of the sled.

One more thumbs up for Vortech. I just put my rack on and the quality and fit/finish is great. I dealt with Todd and he shipped my rack out on New Years Eve day.

Thats enough fuel for an extra day and a half considering the mileage these new sleds are getting.
