new F150 or silverado

Checked into it, they let me drive a 5.7 crewmax unsupervised. I've heard it'll spin the tires for a ways with traction control turned off.

A couple thousand more for a crewmax but the double cabs were on par with chevy/ford. A big turn of for me was the 5.7 epa rating is 13/17 and most guys say you're lucky to get that, the chevy 6.2 is 14/19 and everyone sees that easily. So it'll cost the same or more initially and continue to cost more :(
Fair enough....I forget the ratings, but for what it's worth my 5.3L extended cab GM (which is always touted online as having great gas mileage) cost me slightly more on fuel than my heavier 4.7L crew cab Tundra (2006 model), and about the same as my 5.7L tundra d-cab demo. Just going off of my costs, as I keep track of it all for my business. No experience with the 6.2L, but generally speaking, if you get a V8 4x4, it's gonna use a little fuel regardless of who's name's on the front.

They are all pretty nice trucks these days....don't think you can go too wrong either way. If it were me, the fight would be between the Toyota and the GM/Chev, but those have always been my 2 favorite brands. Ford 1/2 tons are ho hum IMO but they sell boatloads of them, so obviously someone likes them (usually the cheapest as well). I would also give the edge to Toyota and GM in the resale department....if you're the kind of guy who gets a new truck every 5 years or less.

I haven't met a person yet that has bought a toyota (new v8) and has not regretted their decision. Most have sold them in a year or two and gone to the new chevys. I'm not talking those that use them as kid haulers or grocery getters, but guys that hauls boats and sleds on the weekends and/or use them as work trucks. The hp just is there no matter what the dyno says, and the gas milage is terrible. If I just heard this from one guy I would think lemon or whatever. I keep seeing and hearing this enough to make me a believer.

^ I sell em and drive em everyday....I'm satisfied and every customer we've ever sold one to loves it. No dealer in this area has taken one of our 07+ Tundra's back on trade so far, including us. I try to go sledding every weekend in the snow, have a 21' ski boat I run 3 times a week in the summer, and dirtbikes and quads in the mid-seasons. Live in the mountains, get a boat load of snow, and run logging roads all the time.....Tundras work no matter what the haters tell you. I dunno where you heard about the hp not being there, if there's one thing Tundra 5.7 owners rave about, it's the power. Even in the newest round of truck tests, the 5.7 is always either first or 2nd place in the load/unloaded drag races. The gas mileage gets *****ed about because people don't want to accept that 400hp V8 gas trucks get crappy mileage no matter whose name's on it. Again, I've owned a GM for years with the 5.3L and it was no saint....

Anyways, I'm not going to side track the OP's thread anymore, because he asked about 2 other brands,

Chevy has treated me well over the past 12 years. I now drive a 2008 Chevy 2500 LTZ with the 6.0 and absolutely love it. My older 5.3 did well for a half ton, but the 6 speed transmission makes all the difference in the world. It will pull like nobody's business.

Is the 6.2 1500 new for 09? Is that the same motor they have been putting in the Escalade? I bet that thing screams. The 6.2 teamed up with the 6 speed trans has got to be a strong combo.

Dave Smith is a great dealer and keeps many local dealers in check on the pricing.

I'm surprised this thread stayed this on track, your input on any brand is welcome and I did give the toyotas a fair chance, but it's not for me. That's not saying it isn't a nice truck.

My 2004 5.3 does well on gas, I average 17.5 over all (a lot of highway though) and can see 20 on straight highway. It's rated for 15/18.

Yep new for 09, the escalades and sierras already had it.

id for sure go with the f150. not saying that the chevy isnt a good truck but i just think that the f150 is better. theres a reason that its the number one selling half ton for years and YEARS

That is a very misleading statistic. If you compare the Ford F-150 to the GM 1500, there is no comparison in sales. The Chevy/GMC combo sells quite a bit more. Let's face it, over the years these trucks were just badged different and had the exact same powertrain and interior. Not that it matters though...

I've loved my Chevy and I'm upset about their current situation. However, I don't see why it's a big deal that your money would go to a company that employs Americans. It's just a matter of your money going to Ford's CEO's or GM's government funding.

??

I wouldnt buy a F---ing Chevy/GMC if my life depended on it!!!!
They are currently canceling contracts throughout the U.S. and causing companys to go into bankruptcy and Close eventually, and then going over seas to buy there products!!!!WTF Is this the kind of company/Goverment you want to give youre $$$$$$$$$ to??? also do you trust them to keep you warranty contract????and if you buy a Chevy/GMC you get to pay 4 it twice once at the dealer and once a year when you pay taxes..

The government has taken over GM. Therefore the Ford is much more Patriotic. Pay attention they do not want to stop in Detroit. They are in the banking and insurance business and would like to set up shop in a hospital near you.

just get a GM/Chevy. you'll have better power, milage and all around better truck. imo the new 150's are still the same gutless gas hogg's they always were. just more ugly.

Stock the f150's are slow, yes. But I just put a Edge chip, col air intake and exhaust on my 04 f150 5.4 and its a diffrent truck. Also the new ford comes with the 6-speed ( never tried it but I sure want to) With all the good reviews i've seen and with it winning motor trend truck of the year I think its a solid truck

I have an 08 Tundra and really enjoy it. It is used for sledding in the winter, quading in the summer and pulls the outboard whenever I need it to....Lots of power and Toyota reliability. Also, its built in the US by US workers.....

If you decide to go with the F-150, spend the extra money and get an 09 or 2010 model. The changes from the 08 worth the extra money, especially the 6 speed auto transmission. I traded off my 99 extended cab for an 09 crew cab and what a difference. Granted I am comparing a 3 valve motor to a 2 valve but they have lots more power, IMO. You can find a good deal on a carry over 09 now since they are making the 2010 models now.

I have had chevy's since 1993 and have not had any major issues that have broke the bank. For pulling sleds, boats, four wheelers, golf clubs, etc. They have worked great. They were 1/2 tons. When I started landscaping in '05 went with my first Ford F350. Its a great truck for work, they are built for it.
Now, with the current state GM and Dodge are in and all this bailout crap over and over again just gets me. Ford could power their trucks with rubber bands and I'd still buy them. Thats probably just me though.
As far as that amazing new Tundra truck that is so tough, have yet to see a single one with a plow on it yet. Did see one Titan with a plow. Yes I know a lot of people don't plow snow or could care less, but those of us that do don't them for a reason. K i'm done now.

Never towed with one and the gas mileage isnt anything better than the others, but it did run good and was nice to drive. handled great too. I like it more than any of the other new trucks (besides 08F250s) from what iv driven. im sure itll tow a four place fine if thats what you tow

We have a 4.7 reg cab short box with a good sized plow on it for 3 years now....works like a dream, turning circle is amazing, like plowing with a quad lol. It's a company truck too, so needless to say....no one exactly plows "nicely" with it.

Tough call!

My girlfriend has a an f150 and i've got the new sierra.

We both agree the seats, comfortness and drive of mine are much better but the one area we like the ford better is offroading in the mountains around here.

Don't get me wrong, the sierra does well, but on the bump and washed out forest service roads around here the fords stiffer body and suspension is a lot more enjoyable
