new bibs klim or motorfist?

what was mentioned on that thread

quote

You compared a packable jacket to a gaiter. One is designed to go on your torso and another on your boots. I would imagine and hope that the gaiter, which will be subjected to much more constant battles with moisture as you walk through deep snow, would be a more heavy duty material. Next time compare the same type of fabric. And don't bash something as not scientific and essentially do the same test, but with even less evidence. You can barely see any steam. Try something with more evidence

if you just google goretex vs event you get some results to hiking or ski ing foruems .. this is nto a new topic and there are many threads and discussions about this it.
i did ,, what i gleened from it all , was they both work .. i did heaer some mention about questionable durability with event though ..
but i do have to say my goretex loses its waterproffness .. dont know if thats the same ,, even or as bad in event

The high end Polaris gear was made with eVent the last couple years, but they change to something different this year. I'm curious why. The name of the product escapes me but I had done some online searching for it and didn't come up with much to lead me to believe it is better or worse than what is already out on the market place.

Personally, I think either one will perform very well. Both have a proven track record, keep in mind Gore tex has been around longer but E Vent has had very good reviews in a shorter period of time.

I too am looking into upgrading some riding gear and have it narrowed down between Klim and Motorfist. Both seem to be great companies with good products, which one is better................that is the million dollar question.

I'm leaning towards Klim at this time and hears why,

Gore tex has been around longer and is proven.
E Vent relatively new, with no long term reviews.
Klim has the limited lifetime warranty.
Motorfist has the 5 year "Blue Bird" warranty.
Klim has more options and colors available.
Klim's reputation with snowmobiles is second to none.

I do believe Polaris had to change companies due to Motorfist pretty much buy the rights to be the only snowmobile clothing line allowed to use eVent

well getting motofist gear....... found a guy bought new rekon xl bibs and 2xl jacket now after summer they dont fit, got them for 350 shipped new with tags on them, could not say no to that :face-icon-small-ton

I just watched the video. It appears that both fabrics are waterproof, but since air passes through the event fabric, wouldn't that mean that it isn't windproof?

"Goretex" and "Event" are just name brands of similar technology. Both are waterproof/breathable membranes. Both essentially do the same. To claim one is vastly superior to the other is ridiculous. I've had both types of fabric in different products (although I admit I have used goretex items much more, but only because its been around longer), and I've stayed dry in both.

Base your decision on Klim or Motorfist based on fit and finish, and what suits you the best. Both will keep you dry and out of the wind.

Not true at all. Event is basically a 15 year old version of Gore-Tex. Event is the same technology as Gore-Tex was 15 years ago. Gore is currently on version 32 or 33. Event is a loooooooooong way behind the current version of Gore-Tex. In fact Event is so far behind in it's technology when GE bought Event they refused to invest more money into futher development because they knew it would take billions of dollars to try to catch up to Gore-Tex technology. Event is good for what it is designed to do, provide waterproofness and breathability for light weight non-stressed applications such as backpacking. The technology advances in Gore-Tex in the last 10 years has to do with durability of delamination and seam sealing. This is why Klim can offer a lifetime warranty and MF is down to who knows what? MF will work fine for a year or two but by about the end of this season you will begin to see a lot of complaints from guys who bought it last year and think it's working great. Within a couple of years it will start leaking and they will realize they purchased a product that is not up to Klim standards.

It always amazes me why we have to reinvent the wheel. Klim built it's gear out of Event at one time and for some reason switched to Gore-Tex. They switched for a reason and all you have to do is call Klim and ask them why. It's not that hard to figure out. If Event was durable enough to be used in a snowmobile application Klim would still be using it. It's a lot cheaper, takes a heck of a lot less effort to buy and use, and you don't have to get Events approval before producing your products. I know this is a complicated issue, but the consumer has a right to know there is nothing in common with these two laminates or the philoshphy of the companies using them.

I think klim is the way to go.... but that being said- they don't have a lifetime warranty. A few people in this thread said that they do..... they have always been great to work with everytime I needed something-- but not a "true" lifetime warranty. It's the expected lifetime of the product... look at the fine print.

I bought some KLIM Freeride pants two seasons ago, and got a huge tear in the the shin area due to riding through some alders on the very first ride. They wouldnt warranty it of course, so from the second ride on, I had to wear them with a hand sewn goretex patch on them. Since then, Ive put two seasons on them and the bottom of each pant leg on the inside is completely shredded. I could put a softball through the hole on each leg. This is just from dragging the off leg in the snow or brushing it against the side of the seat, sled, etc. To me, this is unacceptable. The pants should stand up and hold together better than this. Of course nothing was covered under warranty and Ill have to replace them this year. I am considering HMK this season.

Yes, keep in mind that "Lifetime" warranties are for the expected lifetime of the product. That can be 4 years, that can be 4 months. It all depends on how much you ride and how you ride. Someone that rides 60 days a year is going to put that much more wear and tear than someone like me who rides 20ish days.

That being said I have had Klim gear for 4 seasons now. I have loved every piece I have owned. I have warrantied 2 pairs of gloves and one pair of pants. Warranty was honored on all of it. You have to have realistic expectations of warranty. In my case, my butt got wet while riding a 4 wheeler elk hunting. There were no visible tears, holes, etc. in the pants, so no reason I should be getting wet. I sent them in after 2 seasons on them, and BAM new pair and newer model showed up several days later. I cannot say enough good things about KLIM. Now if I had bent over my snowmobile to change a spark plug and melted the sleeve of my coat on my pipe?? I can't expect that it is a warrantable issue.

When you mention dragging your pants in the snow all the time when you are riding and they eventually wear out......I don't see that as a valid warrantable issue. If you hang them up on a tree or a fence post....same deal.

Guaranteed to keep you dry..............and it works. I have had pullover's, coats, pants, gloves, boots, multiple pairs, ALL KEPT ME DRY! The 3 times that it didn't, of no fault of my own, they were warrantied as promised.

I will continue to be a loyal KLIM customer and advocate. They are the best in the industry......PERIOD!!!

I see it as an issue when brand X gear has lasted longer using it the same way in the same conditions and for more riding time. To me that shows the new KLIM stuff doesnt hold up as well as the older stuff they used to sell. I would expect a pair of pants purpose built to ride like Ive been using them wouldnt wear out in such a short time, hence the issue I have. Im glad they have worked out for you. My KLIM jacket is great, just not the pants.
