Need to pick your cat minds on M8T.

I have a buddy that said he would buy my 09 xp 800 163. It has a SLP head, Y-pipe, pipe, and super-Q can. I love the way it runs and handles. It would be nice to have some more power for climbing and deep powder boondockin. I ride the mountains of idaho. The only other sled I would want is a M8 with the boondocker pump gas turbo. I have a few questions for ya.

1- How reliable is a m8T?
2- How often do you have to rebuild top end?
3- What else do you have to do? Can you just slap a boondocker kit on and it rips or?
4-what track?
5- do you always have to tinker on it?

Also let me know what else good and bad. I'm new to the whole cat and turbo thing, so please dumb it up for me. Thanks.

1- How reliable is a m8T? Its working very well

2- How often do you have to rebuild top end? Im on 1300ish miles, plan to get over 2500, good gas and good oil (112octane and redline syn)....id say its best for a top end every 2000ish miles....but is a 2 smoke, so who really knows, just pay attention to it, pull the y-pipe and take a look every 3-400miles, mine looks liek new

3- What else do you have to do? Can you just slap a boondocker kit on and it rips or? Its best to keep an eye on things and ride with someone who has a turbo with some wrench time

4-what track? Camo Extreme 2.5 or Power Claw...all other tracks wont work very well

5- do you always have to tinker on it? Yes and No, depends on how you ride and what boost level....Some folks never have a problem and have sleds that look pretty :)

Also let me know what else good and bad. I'm new to the whole cat and turbo thing, so please dumb it up for me. Thanks.
Well whats good and bad is a bad question;), its all in what you want and who will give you the better service, all of the top 3 kits are proven and working well, Twisted/Boondocker/OVS

My Thoughts in Blue

Its best to ride with other 2 smoke turbo guys and gain more knowledge with each and every ride, never stop asking questions and feel free to comment on what you think is good or bad, thats a fact:cool:

sidenote - the Diamond Drive is my biggest problemw with a turbo kit, although they still have tons of problems on stockish sleds....and the DD lite is not much better as it still has the same plant gearset:(

1- How reliable is a m8T?REliable...we did a cutler (cpc) turbo with the aerocharger back in 08 but it is awesome. Very turn key
2- How often do you have to rebuild top end? we checked the wash on this pistons this yr (after 2 seasons) and everything was all good!!
3- What else do you have to do? Can you just slap a boondocker kit on and it rips or?Not much....the nice thing about cpc's turbo kit is the intake system, check out there site you never get any bogging...(my buddy has a bdx intake on a 800 port and polished and piped non turbo and his bogs with that front intake system..
4-what track? we are running the camo challenger 2.25 and it grips and rips (love the new powerclaws though)
5- do you always have to tinker on it? NOpe we just make a few adjustments to the attitude box, not complicated at all. (with only 8lbs boost makin 226)...

:beer;I was the at the boise show and they are coming out with an altitude compensator and boondocker is supposed to have a real nice kit, they changed their control box i guess...but call the arctic cat boise dealer they are knowledgeble too... GOod luck!!

You should give Kevin a call at mouintain magic motorsports-208-852-0400. Hes from Preston and when I went in there he spent 3 hours giving us a turbo education along with real sled examples. I purchased a 09' M1000 RG from him and we only had to drive 1000 miles from canada....cant freakin wait.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard with the bigger 2-stroke turbos you should put a new set of reeds in every year as they wear out faster on the turbos since they open up wider and more often.

What he ^^^^ said I will be picking up my 3rd CPC turbo in a couple weeks cannot go wrong ... my 2 cents..

M8s are, from what I have seen, THE most reliable turbo sled. PG is totally turn-key. The race gas kits are a little more tempermental, but still very reliable. I would hand the top end just like a NA sled and throw new pistons and rings in once per season or every 2000 miles.

Like Hatchers said there are enough guys out here with enough experience that you should be able to install a kit and rip!

The best track........that is opinion just like the best oil, but I would recommend either the 2.5 Camo Extreme or the AC powerclaw.

Once set for the elevation, you should not have to tinker with it. I know a few guys with both pump gas and race gas kits that don't even know how to adjust their fuel.

Reeds every 500 miles are my recommendation. I know you can go a lot farther, but I also know that they start to chip and it is cheap insurance. TDR makes turbo specific reeds, which are the best, but stockers work just fine. If you have an older M8 get the new M1000 petals.:)

I'm on the same boat as Rev800151, can't beat the xp if staying stock but want more power. The M8 turbo seems to be the right choice for me. Keep the info coming :)

I have an 09 BDPG TM8. It is a 153" and basically stock other than a few minor tweaks. It is an absolute blast to ride. It has been trouble free. I despise working on sleds on the hill. I want to ride and NOT tinker. This little sled has been stellar. I had an 09 XP 163" Summit. While the XP was a great sled, the power was just not up to the level I wanted. We ride between 10000' and 13000'. The turbo really will "spoil" you.

Try and spend a little time on one. For me anyway, the transition from the XP to the TM8 takes a little time. It took me a few hours to acclimate from one to the other, they are different rides. Anyway, my 02 is the TM8 is a great platform and very dependable.

We bought a CPC RG turbo last season, the support from Dale has been great, and we've run from 8.5 (pg at our altitude) to just under 14(2-3 gal RG in tank) and haven't had to push a button or fiddle with ANYTHING.

I'm extremely happy with this setup.

I would not buy a pg turbo (on an 8 that is), that's my only advice, you'll want more. You can always turn down a RG turbo.

Turbo

I built a pump gas turbo for my wife last year and she was mad until she drove it and now she has to have one this year she loves it. I would tell you yes just bolt on a pump gas and ride. Change your reads at end of year and if you want more boost you just upgrade. Once you have a boosted sled you will never go back and yes the pump gas kits are so user friendly that I feel extremely comfortable selling them to you wife or girl friend and telling her to go ride it.
