3 of us flatlanders are heading out West during the 1st week of March. We have not totally decided where to go, although we do have some requirements:

- No daily trailering, we want to sled from our cabin/room
- Fuel must be at the location we stay, or very close
- Maximum 20 hour drive from Central Canada
- Good food
- Cheap booze
- Cheaper women
- Wireless internet is a huge plus

The three places we've been thinking about are:

- Island Park, ID
- Revelstoke, BC
- Cooke City, MT

The only downfall is I've been to Island Park twice already and wouldn't mind a change in scenery. The two other guys are new to mountain riding. We're not looking for crazy chutes, but we want to have some climbing, boondocking, and some drops/jumping would be great. Untracked powder would be a plus, and if we could find some guys that know the area, or even a guide, that's what we'd prefer.

I've taken an avalanche course, and we all have shovels/probes/beacons.

Any suggestions? Any snowesters want to take us out for a day and show us the good stuff? ;)

ever think about the snowies around centinneal wyoming? big hills little hills untracked pow jumps drops good food beer PM me i can get you some more details if interested

Have you ever thought of Sicomous? Its sounds more like the kind of sledding your after. We were up a couple of days ago, Owls Head & Hunters Range. 8 to 10 feet of base and 3 to 4 feet of pow!

As far as your reguirments.......
Good food..........yes
Cheap booze........might be able to show you a guy that has a still in a mountain cave, but he may shoot you so its a bit risky!
Cheaper women......... I could arrange some, but you'd be sorry! Your on your own on this one.
Wirless internet..........Hotels have internet

I do snowmobile rentals and quite often I deliver the sleds in the morning to the staging area parking lot, then pick them up in the late afternoon or when the guys return. As for a guide, I don't guide at the sicomous area, but I know someone who is a great guide. Don't know what kind of sleds your interested in but I have a few new M8's or xrs 800 Doo"s. If your interested call me at 250 832 1020.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming! I should have said it earlier, but we have longtrack sleds we're bringing out with us.

Glacier house looks pretty good so far, but I remember reading negative things about the place here?

Just got back from Glacier House.. sled from the cabin and they have gas. Food is so-so, bar has drinks. We headed to town for dinner each night. No contest, food's better, entertainment is better. I didn't meet Alex (who owns Glacier) but spent quite a bit of time observing him. That, and the ever present rumor mill and gossip. End result: ok place to stay, serves the purpose but attitude could make it a whoooooole lot better.

One word for food: Zala's. Janice get's my vote for figuring out how to operate a business. (she owns Comfort Inn too, which is very sled friendly).

Thanks for the reply. I got an email back from them stating basically the same thing.

Where can I sled from my door in Revelstoke that is close to a gas station?

West Yellowstone

I havent been any other place but west yellowstone. but everything on your list is right there. you can rent any kind of sled you would like, take them to your hotel or cabin whitch ever you choose to rent. lots and lots of good places to eat Night life was really fun when ive been up there. there are hundreds of miles of groomed trails. and plenty of off trail stuff, deep snow big hills its got it all.

any questions just ask ill answer as good as possible

Thanks for the reply Gary. I've been to West Yellowstone before, Island Park is just past there a ways :)

So far I've seen nothing to persuade me to go to Revelstoke rather than IP again.

Just make those plans to IP we have great snow this year, and can you find any other towns that it is ok to ride your sleds on the streets in the winter time?

We stayed at Togwotee Mountian village about 3 years and had a good time. Its about an hour from Jackson Hole, Wy. M(aybe you can plan it around the Jackson Hill climb event.) The food was good and sledding was excellent. Check the web-site www.cowboyvillage.com and ask more on the forum for opinions. We bought two nights which included food, happy hour, and a guide. You sign up for the guide ahead of time and describe you level of riding and what you want to do. They put us (my wife and I) with intermediate off trail riders. It was us and a few people from the mid-west. We all had a blast!!! The guide was excellent, he was there to pull us out and he took over where to go....

Bubba, any suggestions where to stay? We stayed at Ponds the last 2 years and everything was good. I called Pines and their prices are triple what Ponds is!

Pm Moondawg he has a nice cabin right by Macks Inn. He rents to snowesters. He's a Good guy.
