Need some clarity... 3" track help

Alright well I destroyed my stock track and I want to upgrade to a 3" camo.

So heres the setup im going with... (2012 pro RMK 800 163)

New iceage bomber rails, new billit chain case from iceage, and a 3" camo with center ports. I was looking into the avid drivers with 3" pitch.

Now do I have to cut my rails with the 7" drivers?

And if im going with 7" drivers what do you recommend I go with for gearing/clutching.

And does anybody sell the 7" drivers already installed onto a drive shaft?

I've done a search and read a bunch of posts on the 3" track but got confused because not everyone has the chain case with the camo extreme. So any help would be great! Thanks

If you get the avid drivers that have the center-driven extro, like the stock drivers, then you don't need to trim your rails.

I wouldn't do the center port camo, Many have had trouble with that track.
tracks Canada has stopped selling them for this reason instead they recommend cutting down a 16" wide(without the center ports) to 15" and using that.

Yeah I don't get the attraction to the center port. Back in the iq raw days some dealers were taking the stock center driver off bc it was collecting ice and vibrating. I went with the avid combo drivers and trimmed rails.

Not sure where you got that info, I have heard of no issues and mine is working great. And I'm not sure why you would byu a 16" and cut it down to a 15" when you can buy a non ported 15" X3. But anyways you will need the track and 3" pitch/7 tooth drivers from Avid that are specific to the center punched X3. Call them and they will set you up. With the center punched track you do NOT need to cut your rails, but you will need your chaincase modded (FTX motorsports does this) to run the 3". Putting the drivers on is an easy job, but does require a press. I'm sure a local machine shop would do the job for you if you don't want to.

Just saw that you are running a billet chaincase from ice age, not sure if that requires the modification, you will have to discuss that with them. As far as clutching everyone has a different opinion, Carls Cycle set me up with mine and it has been spot on.

Do tell? What does 'having trouble with that track' mean? The X3 center port are the tracks that Carls had made initially, and now are available elsewhere. I have a few hundred miles on mine with zero issues, other than the sled doesn't cool as well. The Avid center extro drivers work much better than stock. I'm running much less track tension on the X3 with no ratcheting.

I have a 12 pro cut down the 16 camo 3 inch stock rails. Avid chaincase and extroverted drivers. Works great.

I dont understand the reasoning behind center ports being an issue on the 3". If so why do the stock pro tracks seem to be doing just fine?

Im not a fan of cutting the rails. Seems like its just a shortcut and I think it looks like crap. Iceage said they would custom design some rails to work but of course thats a little extra $$$ and a longer wait.

I hit a dilineator post and tore the track and rails up. It also must have stressed the chain tensioner and broke it. Thought I could limp it home but chain snapped and shot it out the bottom of the chain case.

Seems like a great excuse to fix her up right :face-icon-small-win

So sticking with the stock gearing, 7 tooth center driver with a 3" pitch, dropped and rolled billit chaincase from either avid or iceage, and 3" center ported camo extreme 15" X 162"

Would installing a boondocker make me want to change my mind and re gear?

Run 8 tooth drivers with the drop and roll.
Less rolling resistance.
Gear the case to 19/45

Cut the rails and anti stab is the way to go with the drop and roll chaincase.
If you reinstall the rail tips it wont look so hacked.
Might have to modify the tips.

And I'm not sure why you would byu a 16" and cut it down to a 15" when you can buy a non ported 15" X3.

Some people when they pay for a 15" wide track want a 15" wide track not a 13 1/4" wide at top of paddles !! Our custom cut 156 tracks are 15" wide not like the X3 that only has 15" wide BELTING.

We custom cut the 2.86 pitch 2.5" paddle C/E 9102 155 NON ported and the C/E 9103 163 NON ported to 15" wide for customers who want to remove the center driver. Some choose to install extrovert drivers and some run the stock introvert drivers. Their choice. We always recommend a anti stab kit. Some people don't want to keep chipping the ice out of center driver to save track from tearing in that weak spot. I'm not a believer in a extrovert in a non clipped hole. Right or wrong in some eyes it's my opinion.
