need opinions from sled deck guys

I made my own for my toyota. the first half sides into my hitch, its made of steel. and and the ramp sets on it made of alum... works great. way cheaper than $800 BUCKS and the ramp you could dam near drive a car on it. haha

Best invention for sled hauling since the enclosed trailer!! There are very few cons compared to pros. No chains, barely any 4WD, stay clean, park anywhere, on and on.. You will not be disapointed. We have had ours for a few years now and the trailer sits 90% of the time anymore. My PU is lifted and to be completely honest the first few times loading I was a bit nervous but anymore I dont even think about it. My ramp is only 8' best suggestion I can give is to put an old track on the ramp in the middle. After that just enjoy it!

That is one bada$$ setup!!

Well I took everyones advice and bought this deck. It is built brand new this year and it looks like the guy put quite a bit of thought/work into it for 800 bucks delivered. I will need to put glides on it though. I should put good ones on instead of doing a hack job on it. The closest Murdoch's is 3 hours away so I don't think I will be getting them there. Any suggestions on where to get at least 16-48 feet of it for a good price shipped?

I built one last fall and its the greatest. I can load both sleds faster and easier then on my old two place trailer. Things to have I would say are grip glides on top of the deck. Those plastic ski glides are slick! Second is to have lights. Trust me its nice to see your corners when your trying to park at walmart in the pitch dark.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON BUYING GLIDES. REPEAT, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON BUYING GLIDES.

just like some others have said...go get a older bed liner from a company that does the spray in liners or from the dealer that throws them away...they are the same exact thing and will cost you way less than you would get out of the super glides etc...just cut it...

i have been running the same deck for 9 years now. have the same bedliner for my glides on my deck for 9 years now. it works great.

also get some old hifax or some wood...i used a hockey stick and cut it into 6 inch lengths...put these about 3 or 4 of them at the back of your deck moving forward about every 6 inches...the reason for this is for your track to grab onto something when your loading your sled up...sometimes if there is nothing for your track to grip then it will just slide backwards again...

i can get pics if you want...but it works great...

to unload the sleds, you can just grad the back of the track and start spinning it backwards, the sled will start moving back and you get out of the way and your sled is unloaded...

murdocs ski guides

Could someone post a pic or link to the ski guides from Murdoch's?

Thanks.

I couldnt find a link, nor could I get a picture, its to dark out. I did measure them and they are 6.2"wide and 5' long, and are low profile. If I get time, Ill try to stop by the store here and get a picture. So you can see what brand.
I have them on my deck and they work great.
And they dont look like a hacked up bedliner.

I can't believe there's so many people on the fence about getting a sled deck over an open trailer. In my town (northern b.c.) every other truck driving down the road has a sled deck on it.
Around here, every time I ride, every time there's more than 2 guys in a truck, it's a fight over who gets to put their sled on the deck. The guy on the trailer has a filthy sled every time. Especially under the hood.
Never mind the clean sled part, if you ride anywhere that does not have plowed roads to the good stuff, (which is ususally 90% of mountain riding, what this forum used to be dedicated to) you will go 5 times farther with your sleds on the truck as opposed to getting dragged behind on a trailer.
Also as mentioned, no screwing with spare tires, wheel bearings, extra insurance, etc,etc....
And you'll get used to loading on a deck, it's a piece of cake. Anyone who considers themself a "mountain rider" has no business climbing mountains if they cant even load their own sled on their own deck hehe

Front and rear stabalizer bars!!!

Maybe toss in some Rancho 9000's.
(That's all that I found that could handle the loads that we carry)

if you get a fixed deck. (without slide outs) most have a dove tail. I have had my silverlake for 4 years. The only problem i have had was the track lugs folding on the end of the deck making it a pain in the azz to get the ramp under the lugs and over the rail. As my sleds hang off quite a ways. 1 hangs 3 1/2 ft off.. FIX. I screwed a 2x4 to the deck at the end. It works perfect with 1 sled and slides out with 2 sleds. 1 2x4 on each side. What i doo for my 3 inch track is put a 2x4 sideways and it holds the track up with plenty of room for the ramp. my ramp is 11 ft. It fits a shortbed and longbed truck. Old bed liner is better than the slides that come on most decks. Used a jig saw to cut 3 up for deck and trailer. Wood blade made a clean cut. Cut the liner at the bottom of the groove so the cut end is down. it wont look like a hacked up bed liner if you take yur time. i have the liner on my ramps not on the deck. Makes it easy pulling a dead sled up to. You wont have to hit it with much speed to get on top either.

Dont forget to treat the wood. i use thompsons. same wood since new and its not tatered at all.

What if your carbide on one side catches and the sled continues down the ramp? yup over the side it goes. SEEN IT
i let my sled run for a min or so then put it in reverse and pushes right off with ease. Proper belt deflection helps also. if you sled is running it is wanting to go forward, making it more work to push it bacwards.put it in reverse. 1 hand on the ski loop (steering) the other on the bumper, lift slightly and lean into the sled, once starts going down the ramp you can guide it straight.

push it off walk down center of the ramp and hit the reverse button, now let the sled warm up and get yur azz ready.

Decked

Here's my 2cents, even though you already bought it. Decks kick azz!!! I started with a tilt 2 place/donut tires... 1 year, never again!!! Bought a nice 3 place v-nosed w 15" tires, nice trailer but behind a 1ton your sleds are road grimed! I now have 2 4 place V nosed enclosed trailers, they are sweet, keep everything dry, can be used as a mini garage, etc.....You get used to pulling them around and it's no big deal with a diesel. I just bought a deck for quick trips and spring conditions, I haven't pulled my enclosed once after using the deck, they are so slick!!! No question it's better than any flatbed trailer if only hauling 1/2 sleds and more convenient than an enclosed trailer in most cases. My deck came with Superglides& Superclamps..... If you can $Splurge$ the cash I HIGHLY recommend these! There is no worries about slipping off the ramp while going up/down. You can walk up/down on the sglides without holding on to anything and the clamps are one of he best inventions in tiedown history! After I modify my Bedslide I'll post pics, this way you pull the slide out, load all your gear bags, slide it back in.

I get my guides from Dennis Kirk...they are called Caliber guides. I also put them on my beaver tail. Just screwed about a 12' section on sticking straight up them took my heat gun and folded them around to fit and screw in the the other side...glides all the way now, works great.

AS far as unloading... IF you have reverse why are you pushing it off? I back mine off, seems pretty straight forward to me. This is directed at the guy saying start sled and put it in reverse then hold a ski loop...

And to the OP, I love my deck. I always had 2 places and finally ditched it and won't go back. If I do get a trailer it will be a 3-4 place enclosed for long trips and storage...

we have a crew of 3 people that ride togehter a lot right now, so been rolling with my buddies enclosed which is way nice, as getting ready out of the weather/wind is way nice. but when its just 2 people, i will never pass up my deck, i live on a corner in town and its a PAIN to park and turn around a trailer as well as load/unload. being able to just drive around like a normal truck is the best thing ever.. the deck stays in all winter, and then we just throw the enclosed on if were going with more people.
