NEED HELP

all right here is my story... i have a 2000 rmk 700.. running great.. went on a sled trip on tue sled was running great up till 4 hrs into the ride ... then it just died? the key was on and kill switch up.. soo i let it cool down. for 10 min or so.. it starts back up and goes 1/4 mile and it starts to backfire really bad and shuts off.... so i get towed out 13 miles. get it home. and let the thing thaw out once it was dried out i pulled the rope it runs just fine... i took the water pump cover of to see if the water pump belt was broken. but is was not and the water pump looks to be in good shape.. but can a water pump go out looking sooo good...???? or is it something else? stator? oil? why overheat problems??? and why the back fire???? oil pump? i do not know please help me narrow this down..
 
I had the same thing happen with a gen2 XC 600. turned out to be the kill switch. Once I disconnected the kill switch the sled ran great, didnt die out when it was hot anymore. Hope this helps and it is this simple.
 
Had a buddy with a 98 do the exact same thing. The cdi ended up going. Eventually it got the point where you could tap on the box and than only would it run.
 
Could it be lean for some reason mine did that and it was lean and I burned the pto side piston out! Maybe check the compression and see if its where it should be! IDK just suggestions!

had that happen too, air leaked ended up causing mine.
 
did some more close up investigating!!! the water pump bearing was bad it has a bad clicking feel to it and it has lots of side to side movement... not good.. were is the best place to buy a water pump? impeller, shaft seal and bearings....
