I have an 08 D8.100% stock. In 08 before the motor went it pulled 8250 rpms. 09 update would only pull 7700-7800 rpms. 010 update it pulls 7900-8000 rpms. What do I need to do to get the rpms back to 8200-8300. I dont know anything about clutching. Its time to learn. Thanks,

first off have you ever replaced the stock springs(primary and secondary)that would be a good place to start and something I do every year at the start of the season, while changing them, wash them(both clutches) up real good with lots of hot soapy water, add 2-3 delrin washers to the secondary(one on each end of the secondary spring and then if you do a third it goes between the lower spring cup and the sheive)check both clutches over for excessive wear or damage(bushings, pins, rollers, sheive faces)and now..if you want to pick up some performance...read thru this thread and it will give you some clutching ideas.......

I have the same sled the 08 and 09, I do my bizz at carl's in boise. 8200 to 8300 for a stock sled seems a little much. I have a SLP single and Big Air on both sleds, after talking to jack at carl's stock should be at the 8000 to 8100. With the single SLP pipe, best performace is as 8200 to 8300. This is what I was told by carl's. The 010 update running at the 7900 (low side) to 8000 (high side) would be possibale a spring issue, or even belt wear. If you want yours to running up there at the 8200 to 8300 I would agree with AK.

Same problem

I have the same problem with my sled and I have an 09. My friend has an 08 and he is experiencing the same thing. We both are lucky to pull 8000 rpms on the trail, when under a load we are pulling 7800-7900. I am going to try leaving all the weight out of the mtx weight I have and see how that works. Both of us have the slp single set-up. Seems to me you would want around 8350 on the trail and about 8200 under load? I am still pretty new to the clutching game, but I would like to find something that works so I can quit messing with it. I would rather ride than wrench.

carls definately know their stuff...but stock running rpms for the 08's(8250 +0 -250) and 09's(8250 =0 -250)and the 2010's(8250 +0 -250), With the slp single my instructions said 8300 rpm....(08 or 09 ) for the new 2010(and all 08 or 09 sleds with the 2010 update kit) slp single max rpms are 8000 to 8200...What I found from the first on hill testing with mine in dec 07 was the more I raised rpm the better the sled performed..both stock and with the slp single..I went as low as 7800 rpm to a high of 8600 rpm best on hill performance(and big improvement over the lower rpms was at 8200-8300 stock and 8300 to a best of 8450 with slp single) I do ride from sea level up to 6500 ft regularly and once in a great while as high as 8000 ft.I think its something you need to test out on the hill to really find what works best for you..I havent run my sled yet this year with the 2010 update so I cant comment yet on what works for me with it.....

I have never replaced the springs. My buddy has an 09 D8 with the 010 update and it run identical rpms and it only has a thousand miles on it. Im going to call Carls to see what they have seen with these sleds with all the update changes.

When you try your clutching without the rivets in the weights could you please post it up along with everything else you have in your clutches? thanks

Last ride on my 2010 updated 08 I pulled 8450 with my Carl's clutching and SLP single, can and air horn. I felt that it pulled about 100 more rpms than the original motor with the same set-up. The 09 update SUCKED as far as I'm concerned. It didn't run as crisp as the original 08. I'm completely satisfied with the 10 update.
