need help with motor install

first time ive had the motor outta the thing. i get the 2 oil lines hooked up and the throttle cable for the oil line, get it half way in witht he mag side down hill, and i have to leave and getsomeone unstuck. come back and it emptied all my oil into the engine and it was dripping outta the reed boots? what did i do wrong? :noidea:

You have 3 main hoses to connect.
Oil line from the bottom of the oil tank goes to the oil pump.
Oil line #2 from near the top of the tank goes to the nipple down below the middle of the intakes to feed the water pump.
Line #3 is a black hose from your fuel pump that connects to the nipple on the right of the case that is angled. That is your impulse line.

If oil drained in your engine, you likely hooked an oil line up to the impulse, or you have a bad oil pump that let it drain, or your seals around your water pump are completely shot.

well i only took 2 oil hoses off the engine when it came off. one was smaller and straight and the bigger one was angled. i believe. and the bigger one had a filter on it. oil was constantly dripping out of both of them, and i had to plug them while the motor was out.

The one with the filter goes to the oil pump. The other one feeds your water pump and comes from the top of the tank so would only get oil when the reservoir is over 3/4 full.
Both oil lines are clear tubing while the impulse line is black.

Look at this post and my comments here. This should help with the diagram. The connection on the case that is angled at a 45 degree is your impulse line. that is where the black hose goes. that is likely why oil went into your case if you put an oil line on there.

AS A NOTE: the second diagram marked "oil injection system" showing #1 going from the tank to that 45 degree nipple is WRONG! It goes to the "L" elbow nipple above the oil pump directly between the cylinders where the oil pump cavity is. The black one that he has drawn in there in the first one.

utah...any reason why the water pump should only receive oil when the tank is above 3/4 full or is this some mystery? i guess i didnt notice this until you mentioned it above...??

Because the water pump cavity is static of you will. It doesn't consume oil just needs to stay lube so that is more or less an overflow line to keep a little running down there when it needs it. As long as seals and pump are in working order it will almost never need any after it is full.
