Need help - Temperture 09 800 dragon

I just installed my motor. I start it and let it ideal sitting in the driveway. Has not been ridden in the snow...just started.

I watch the temp and it appears the thermostat opens.....then after 10 minutes.......the temp starts to climb.....the tunnel is hot. continues to climb....I shut it off at 137.

My question: is that normal with at idle ,yes it kind of warm out. I've never ridden this sled so I have no reference.

If I trailer to the snowmobile area do you start your sled and keep an eye on it while warming up?

I thought it would stay cooler at idle. What temp is normal at idle prior to hitting the snow?

In a warm environment I could see it running that hot. They definitely need the snow to stay at a good temp running on hard pack my 800 dragon will hit 140 pretty quick. Just keep an eye on it but since your tunnel is hot it should be circulating.

At idle it will heat up even with the big aluminum heat sink called the tunnel. 137 is not hot by any means so no problem there. Let it warm up to 120 at least before starting your ride. Some say not to even unload it from your trailer/deck before it reaches 120.

yup talked to Polaris also.........I'm just use to the old 2002 rmk which had enough coolant to take care of it self when idling for extended periods of time.

Sled ran nice and cool with the thermostat mod installed.

I also found a leak in the sled - human error....Engine temp probe not tight .

Thank you

Put Ice scratchers on it if it doesn't have them already, REALLY helps keep temps down and save hyfaxes in icy or low snow conditions. When it has all the cooling it needs they usually run in the 120 range. I wouldnt worry about temps on hard pack till you get to maybe 170 range. Its not going to hurt it there but I usually stop if I get that hot. I don't have that thermostat mod and I rarely see anything over 135 though. And I've never let it warm to 120 before I take off (just takes too long), 85, 90 maybe, but take it real easy till its up to temp. Got an 09 with over 4k miles on it and never had any engine trouble with it, been a great sled!

Make sure you bleed out air, and I had seen temps of up to 180+ on a decent snowy trail until I tipped the warmed-up sled on its left side several times followed by opening the thermostat bleed screw... that got the air out, temps generally never went above 130 after that unless on hardpack. But just sitting and idling, if it idles long enough it will continue to climb, so when warming it up in parking lot etc. put the display on temperature and keep an eye on it as you gear up.
