need help fixing mid range bog

K

knee deep in it

Well-known member
2006 600 rmk with a union bay ported engine, bored carbs, v force 3 reeds, slp single pipe.

I have been fighting this since the engine got installed. A mid range, it will bog a bit before cleaning itself up. I can't get full revs from it as well. We raised the needle jet but that didn't help.

Plugs are good at WOT, maxed out at 7900 rpm. (almost a little lean so I don't want to lean it out any more), exhaust valves are oil covered but dont appear completely foiled.

Oil pump is good (1st tank had premix as well), reeds are good, belt is good (not too hot).

When i am coming back to the staging area, when i drop the throttle, it will go into the MMMMRRRRRR bogging noise and then clean up a second or so after I give it throttle.

any ideas? clutching maybe??

You need to determine whether or not it is a lean or rich bog. You raised the needle jet, which means you must think it is a lean bog, but you say "cleans up" which suggests it may be a rich bog....do you know?

If it is a rich bog you will need to lower the needle jet.

Don't know if this helps, but I hope so.

Ride it for 15-20 seconds in midrange and and hit the kill switch, then check your plugs and see how it runs.

Other thing you can do is run in midrange and then flip the choke on and if it clears up it is lean, if it gets worse it is rich.

Again, hope this helps, keep us up to date as it's always nice to know what works when suggestions are given.

Good luck.
