Need help finding a trailer part

I know this is probably going to sound odd but a friend of mine has these on his trailer but the trailer maker is out of business now so I can't call them. I'm looking for a metal plate that mounts to the deck of the trailer. You can put a carriage bolt in it and then the bar that holds the ski's down slides on the bolt. It's a metal plate with a hole for the bolt head on one end and a narrow track extending from the the hole the bolt head goes through. I hope this makes sense. Its made so when you loosen the crank that hold the bar down you can take the whole bolt, bar and crank off the trailer without having to completly remove the crank. Its pretty hard to explain with out a picture but I hope someone gets it. If you have any info or have seen anything like it please let the know. Thanks.

Big hoe, havent seen any like that, but you should be able to have some made pretty cheap at any good steel supplier..have em cut it out of plate on a waterjet....

I know

I have the same brackets on my trailer, I have been moving them from trailer to trailer for 20 years, they are the best and simplest hold down out there. I used to work for a GM/Crestliner/SKIDOO dealer many years ago. We got the brackets from a place in Brainerd, Minn, I believe the name of it was Brainerd Recreation, I do not know if they are even in business anymore or if the brackets are still available. I will never let these bracket go with a trailer, they are ingenious.

Thanks for the help, I'll look into it. At least I know I'm not going crazy and someone else knows what I'm talking about. It sounds like it's made specificly for snowmobile trailers so I guess I'll start calling trailer dealerships.

Dennis Kirk or Shadetree has them in their trailer sections or they did a while back. We had to do this on our Floe trailer back in the 90's before the rail system.

It's basically a plate with a nut welded to it and then some holes so you can rivet it to the deck or where ever you would like.

I don't think he's looking for a plate with a nut welded on it.

If you can't come up with something, send me the measurements/drawing or even an old plate, I can have some lasered out of stainless.

I know Brainerd Rec is still in business in Brainerd Mn., don't have their # handy, but look-up the Shoreland'r boat trailer web site, they are listed as a distributer. Good luck

I saw that Brainerd Rec. had a website, I'll try to give them a call tomorrow. I've also heard that specialty iron works in Great Falls, Mt used to put them on trailers they made a few years ago. They are closed this weekend so I guess I'll call tomorrow. Thanks again for all the reply's, any and all ideas are welcome.

They are more than a flat plate with the keyway, somehow they would have to be stamped because when the plate is bolted to to deck of your trailer the carriage bolt has to be able to travel freely in the slot until you tighten down the wingnut on your hold down bar. To remove the tie down bar you simply loosen the wing nut and slide the bar and carriage bolt to the opening in the keyway and take it off.

You are correct sir, when I worked for the dealer the brackets came standard on shorelander snowmobile trailers back then. I ordered mine from Brainerd Rec and I wish I had several more of them now.

Your exactly right, and what you have is what I'm looking for. I'm sure its out there somewhere. I have till next winter to find them. The search continues. I'll let you know if i track some down so you can get more if you want them.

I would appreciate that, I have had many people look at the brackets on my trailer and ask where they could get some like them and I would like to have a couple more.

Part Number

After talking to Brainerd Rec. I guess the part number for the whole tie down kit, with the plates, bar, bolt, nut is a shorelander SS968. I've searched the internet for it and didn't come up with anything. Brainerd Rec. is looking now to see if it is still made by shorelander and if the individual parts out of it can be ordered.

Mystery Solved

So I got part number for what I was looking for.
PN# 6041200 for the top plate $4.50
PN# 6048800 for the wing nut $4.00
PN# 6041700 for the bottom backing plate $7.50

Just the info if anyone cares. Shorelander is having to make these so it takes a couple weeks to get them. You can have any local shorelander dealer order them for you. Brainerd Rec. was the key to finding what I was looking for. Thanks for everyones help, snowest comes through again!!:beer;

Brainerd Recreation Supply addy

Whaddya know, I have a Brainerd address myself, and I've never heard of the place.
Looked in the local phone book and found their phone number. Chamber/Commerce lists their website.

Nice work, glad I could help. Actually all you really need is the top plate, the bottom plate could be made out of flat, plate steel and you could probably use a wingnut from a spare tire hold down but whatever works will work.
