Well i will start buy saying that this is the first issue I"ve had with my sled,so im looking for some help or advice on what could be causing this.So here we go i went out to the enclosed trailer and started my MCX turbo phazer to put in the garage to do some minor work,as i have a set of nytro bars with hooks to put in place of the stock straight bars and add some hand gaurds nothing major.Now this is the problem I decided to reroute the K&N filter out from under the seat (Sucking Hot Air)to out the back to get cold air as so many guys have said to do then i took a Hindle xhaust pipe that i had taking up space on the bench for a nice sound and less restrictive setup as most have also suggested so i mock up both pipe and filter and start the sled to hear how she sounded and all was good ,sounded wicked (Started it for only 20 30 seconds)so i say great and I shut it down to weld the pipe on to the turbo end over on the bench and glue the pvc pipe together for th k&N filter.Now all is done and i put it all back together and again go to start it to hear what she sounds like and take a little test rip across the field but the thing wont start it just wines and wines with a couple of little offer start puffs and then nothing only wines till the battery ran down so i put the booster box on and tried it again and same thing no go, so i pull everthing back off and try to start her with out filter or exhaust and again nothing only a couple of small offer sounds but again the battry is down so i put it all back on charge and pull the plastic and tank to get at the plugs to see if shes flooded and it seems like it might have been flooded a bit so i dry the plugs off and reinstall everthing and give it a try,again the same thing couple of little offers and i killed the battery.By now im lossing my :mad: ,so i walk away to keep my cool and let her sit for the night in the nice warm garage and come into the house and surf for some answers from knowledgeable folks here on snowest.
So here I am ,sled wont start,and I must say as it is never very easy to start , it wines quite a bit for the first start each day but after that it is mostly fine.Now mind you the battery is always dead each morning,I have to put the boost box on and away she goes and i had it at a dealer and he tested it and it did hold a charge, but if it was only the battery i would go pick on up and be done with it so what is everyones take on this problem and is there anything i could get to righten my problem or a recall to fix the hard start thing?As my dealer is really good with fixing recalls on our sleds .Sorry for being so long winded but I had to explain it as best i could and i dont now if I did a good job at that. :o
Im still leaning towards it being flooded as it was started and shut off fairly quick,Whos with me and has anyone else had this problem .Is there anything to get fairly cheap to fix the cold start problem.
Thanks Roger

Change your plugs,,,,here's the problem with EFI,you can't start your sled and run it for 4-5 minutes then turn it off,it needs to go through it's warm up cycle,during this time the EFI is in it's enrichment stage so if you don't let it warm up properly, then it fuel fouls the plugs and because it is only a two cylinders,it doesn't want to fire,and the more you crank it, the more raw fuel gets dumped in and further fouling the plugs,,,,so,,,when you start your sled,let it warm up properly,or don't start it at all.You'll get this,,,real good,,, when you go to change those stupid plugs in the Phazer,and you'll never foul the plugs again.:beer;

By the way there is a recall on the hard starting issue,,,see your dealer,new cdi and a new decompression spring.

You say you did the welding on the bench. Do not know this sled but I have heard of guys burning out cdi's by welding on a sled without disconnecting the unit first.

Linc hit it on the head, you fouled the plugs, if you ever start this sled you have to let it run until it hits temp and a good indicator of that is to what unitl the radiator fan engages, and by the way what on your bars, I had a set of nytro bars as well with the hooks but the heating element is different and the thumb warmer will only work and you will fry your ecu with in 100 dont ask me how i know:rolleyes: and yes there is a hard start recall but just having an 08 ecu makes mine start with in 2-3 seconds much better than the 15 to 30 secs.

I put on about 300 miles last year pre-MCX and the sled would start at any temp. After the turbo(head shim installed and timing change) the sled will not start if cold and below 30f. If in a shop or heated enclosed or once running, good to go all day. Will restart warm just fine. I have the same air and exhaust setup you have. My dealer is bringing in the cold start kit for it and we'll see if it helps. When marginally cold, it will cough and sputter, seems to start on one lung. I have to hold the throttle at 1/8 and let it attempt to run for 3-5 minutes. It must be building heat in the motor. once warm she runs fine. We'll see if the cdi and spring fixes it. Not sure if the MCX computer will play nice with the new 08 ecu or not??

Mine is just like yours aksteepndeep,So is this cold start kit a recall and free upgrade at dealer or cost to me.
Thanks Roger

Free,nada,rien,nothing,nyet,but you have to contact your dealer first as it's only for people that complain,so it needs to be ordered.

Yes the kit is free and yes you have to complain. I didn't have to do much twisting to get it. I will be interested to see the results. I talked with Leipheimer and I was the first case like this they had heard of, but now I may not be alone. I never had the 15-20 second crank time, maybe 5 at the most.
