I put a Skinz on my 2007, it works great! That factory plastic is just for decoration! Brother.

I would go with the CoBe if you ride in the trees. Running one on my 900 and yes it has 09 plastic. These are build like the skinz but with a skid plate for the belly pan. I have not tested it yet but i think it will hold up.

Treedog. PM treedog for the best bumper for the 05-08's. If you look at where their competition bolts the upper bolts to, you'll have to agree.
Have had a TCP bumper on my D8 since nearly day one. Has paid for itself repeatedly! I did however, mount it myself and retained the belly pan. Do a bumper search, you'll find a number of posts with pictures.
I had a Skins on my 07 and it ghost rode into a tree Sunday. It destroyed the bumper, the front bar snapped off completely. The good news is that the hood and pipe were untouched. I will be ordering another one. I have snapped off 4" trees with no damage, apparently 18" is too much.

For an 08 I would get the Treedog bumper, but the Skinz is good too. If you want to upgrade/change to the 09 plastics etc. then the COBE bumper from Fastrax is the one, I have it on my 09 and generally mow trees over with it, no issues, a great bumper but a bit spendy.

Maybe I should take the cash for the bumper and fill a pillowcase and mount that to the front. For now I have the 09 setup coming and a skidplate, I ended up ruining more plastic than i first thought.. Thus ruining the budget
